    Question Next Toy...

Ok, so here's my current system:

    A64 3000+ Venice
    6600GT
    1GB (2xCMX-512-3200C2) RAM
    2xSamsung SpinPoint (120GB and 200GB) HDDs
    Abit AN-8 Ultra MoBo
    Enermax Noisetaker 370w

No great shake i'm sure you'll agree. However there's an X1900XTX winging it's way to me, and I know it'll leave the rest of my system in the dust. So... what should I have as next priority to make more of the yummy GPU?
    Cheers all

PS: Don't suggest a new PSU, I realize i'll need one for the new card

Overclock the CPU a bit and upgrade to 2gb. You could also get a raptor or something to put your os on.

Come to think of it is it really worth spending £150 on ram? Save up and go Core 2!
    With love and many thanks,

Nah, haven't OCd the 3000+ cos i've never done that kinda thing too (i'm a bit scared), but i've heard these venice cores can get really good improvements. If I were to go C2D and not change RAM, would it make much more difference than just upping the RAM? Ta

You would have to change the RAM (and m/board) if you went to C2D, sorry.

However it would make a huge difference to performance.

That said, the 3000 is still a great chip and won't be holding back the GPU in a lot of cases, so I'd agree, get a bit more ram (another 1gb is more than enough to last out your 3000).
