Need help finalizing new rig

Ive already got: keyboard/mouse, monitor, DVD drive and all software. Current shopping list is:

Intel Core 2 Duo E4300
Scythe Ninja Plus Fanless HeatPipe Cooler (+fan)
Asus P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP iP965
640MB Palit 8800GTS PCI-E (x16),
1Gb Micron Major, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800) *2
Antec P180 Advanced Super Midi Tower Case, Black (no PSU)
500W FSP Sparkle Blue Storm AX500-A
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

Which comes to £755 from Scan (Budget is ~£800). Now the questions:

1) Compatibility - does the PSU fit in the P180's compartment fine?
2) Noise - How quiet are the FSP PSUs' and the 8800GTS (or not in this case)?
3) Hard drives - What makes are both quiet and reliable, any suggestions. Obviously bigger is better but within my budget.

If I were you I would drop the Ninja and get an Arctic one, its cheaper :P. Use the money saved to get better ram (This if your overclocking, this if your not). That PSU will die in the face of an 8 series (well... it would probably be ok but its best to be on the safe side). I would go for either a Corsair , a Seasonic or if the budget is REALLY tight a Xclio.

Otherwise its looking good :).

Edit: Forgot about the HD. Depends how big you want it, 250gb seems to be the value point atm, seagates are supposed to be good (they aren't as load as they used to be and they're REALLY fast).

about hard drives...i have a Seagate...and its pretty darn good, and really quiet

I'm gonna be overclocking but with any 6400 ram I'll hit 3.6ghz before I start overclocking the ram so I don't see the need for more expensive stuff, hence the cheaper bits. RE the cooler, reading the review at SPCR the freezer 7 doesn't work anywhere near as well as the (much more expensive) ninja.

There's no way I can stretch to a almost £90 for a PSU, am overbudget as it is (:(). Since you mentioned an Xclio Would a 550W one be better. They say they're super silent, how true is this?
I'll shall have a look at the seagate HDD's though. Thanks for your comments :)

I have the 550watt one. You will have to check with someone else one this but I don't think it will be enough for an 8 series card.

Edit: Its hard to tell if the PSU is silent or not because I have loads of drives and fns but I'd say its pretty damn quiet.

regarding power supplies and 8800 cards its all about the amps on the 12v rail nvidia recommends 26amps for a 8800gts, i know people have run them on 485w enermax and 430w seasonics and there absolutely fine.

not sure how many amps that psu has but fsp sparkle are a good brand so should be fine, just try and find out the specs for it.

the BlueStorm runs 30 amps of the 2 12 volt rails. There is a new version Blue Storm 2 with 2 PCIe connectors. Cant find the ratings. Post a query in the FSP Care section of the Hexus forum. Ann should be able to tell you one way or another. The Epsilon 700 I have is quiet enough.

Samsung drives are very quiet indeed.

Think I'll go for the Xclio PSU, seems ok and its SLI certified so will definitely be able to handle any 8800 you can throw at it.

Others on this site have recommended the Xclio. I'm going to get one for my new build too.

when are you getting this rig together? I have a very simular setup hopefully coming up in 16 days provided my cash source has money available and paying it back in march?

Getting the same CPU, mobo and case. In the end I decided to buy a seasonic 600W PSU and samsung drive. Will let you know how it goes if you are interested.

Will be building it as asap, just as soon as I convince myself that I need to anyway :p

Dont get E6400 just go for E6300 as they overclock just aswell, PSU wise i use a 700w FSP Epsilon which seems very stable
