cooling issue

my current setup:

xp2000 pally not o/c'd
756 meg 2100 ram not o/c'd
msi kt3 ultra mobo.

after attempting o/c ing moves on above and failing, my temp has risen to 60 c since up grading my case to an ebuyer one. i now have 4 fan's plus the cpu one, 3 blowing in and one out at the back. is this the problem and my case is now 'uncluttered' compared to old times.

should all fan's blow air out instead of in?

i want to know this as upgrade is on bedroom floor of mobo, cpu, fan (coolermaster aero 7 lite) and ram - on way.

don;t want a hot system really.

any thoughts?

Well overclocking doesnt really happy on a xp2000 pally, especially with pc2100. as they are ultra hot. and you really want the fans to blow out (3 out, 1 in) as this creates a low pressure in the case which sucks more air in.

If you stil think that the case is messy you could try braiding, or heat shrink wrapping teh cables..

i 'upgraded' all my cables to round ide one's to get better air flow. what i'll do then i reverse the air flow for 3 of the fan's to suck air out of the case, probably the 2 at the front and one rear, and leave the side one to suck air into the case.

you reckon that will help it when the new nf2-s v.2 board with 2500 barton and 2 x 256 twinmos 3200 4oo mhz ram goes in?

also, are SATA drives that much better than 133 one's except the obvious?

OK..from the top...

The air flow must be "balanced" ie you do not want to create either a vacuumor a high pressure......we want lots of un-restricted FRESH air in to cool it....

Get all the air out at the top if you cam and cool in the bottom.

Second...the airflow is vital, BUT that CPU might not wanna go higher They are NOT reknowned for overclocking (the 2000 XP)
It might be maxed at default.

Take out a stick of memory and see if one is holding it back.

And last but not least.....is the CPU seated properly with good quality thermal goo ?

i have a new mobo, processor and ram on my bedroom floor

i have checked everything and seem's to be all ok, thermal stuff was on processor. the whole heat thing basically went last week. the processor will not o/c so have left it alone.

i think the best thing to try is switch the fan's so most suck air out of the case and blows in at low level.

where on the case are the fans located? for example I have two fans (80mm) on the front sucking air in, one 80mm on the rear and another 80mm on the top - the top and rear sucking air out. the psu also sucks air out, but i have the rear fan running at a lower speed to try and compensate a little. My case temps are normally 2-3 degrees above room temp, which i'm very happy with.

i have 2 sucking air at the front bottom, 1 on the side (came like this) sucking air in and one blowing air out on the back.

would you be comfortable with making a large (80mm) hole on the top of your case and putting another exhaust fan there? with 3 fans sucking air in and only one (plus psu) pushing it out, it must be pushing getting the extra air out somewhere, and if its going through a restrictive space it will be noisier and not as efficient. you can try removing the top 5 1/4 bay bezel and seeing if that makes any difference - would probably be comparable to putting an exhaust on the top, just without the fan to aid airflow, and the work involved. Are there another other 'large holes' where the extra air can escape?

no, i havent got a hole on top, but it is a clear plastic top though. i may mod it, but i'm not good or competant at that kind of thing.

i will try and turn the side way fan which is fairly high up to suck air out of the case and see what difference that makes.

yep thats good too! i was assuming it was directly over the cpu (doh) for some reason. if you want to start modding, i suggest two things: patience, research and practice. erm, well 3.
