Watercooling Amatuer.....

Hi Guys!

Finally decided I can’t put up with my 2 Xeon stock coolers anymore as when they spin up it sounds like concord taking off!

I would like to buy all the parts individually but don’t really know what I need as ive never worked with water cooling before so I was hoping if I let you guys no my requirements you could help me out! Here goes...

I need 2 CPU blocks for some socket 604 Xeons
It has to be quiet!

The radiator needs to be a single 120MM as that’s the only fan I can fit in my case (Would this be sufficient)

Now what other bits do I need I know I need a reservoir + tubing n the likes but don’t really no what im looking at!

I’m not interested in GPU cooling at this stage as it’s fairly quiet

My main concern is that im going to be upgrading to a C2D setup in about 6 months...
Would I be able to reuse all the bits apart form the CPU blocks?? And be able to add a GPU block into the loop..?

Finally how much do you guys reckon im looking at for the setup i require my budgets about £100-£200 will this be enough...?

Would i also have to buy fittings or with each indicidual componant come with its required fittings...?

I'd go for a Koolance setup

A single rad isnt going to be enough for 2x cpu and a gpu (later). You should be looking at a double and you can always mount it on the back of the case on a radbox.

If you want quiet, have a look at the Thermochill PA series rads, they work great with low cfm fans.

Im not sure about the fittings for xeons, are they the same as anything else, or are they one on their own?

P.S. if you absolutely cant go with anything over a single 120mm rad, then I would suggest going for some decent air cooling instead.

xeons have a different fitting setup compared to there types of socket but there would need to be two rads on there as they put out quite a bit of heat adnwhen adding the grapics card there would nees to be a very special setup. you might need to have to single rads instad in order to cool each companent properly

If the rad can be mounted on the back of the case that wouldnt bother me id go as far as to say if there was room id cut a big hole in the back to accomidate for it :)

Im not looking at GPU cooling till i upgrade to C2D at which stage ill just sell the Xeon blocks and get a 775 one

A swiftech radbox will allow you to mount any size rad on the back of the case, provided there is already mountings for a fan 80, 92 or 120mm.

The Swiftech Apogee block looks to fit the xeon.

This looks to be perfect, just add another block.

I absolutly love the look of that kit if i do a straight price conversion its whithin budget as well but knowing this country itl be a bit more

with this kit at a later stage would i be able to change the cpu block to a 775 one at anytime..?

Just Found the kit for £150Inc just needs to find another block :)

Yeah, the Apogee block fits on pretty much anything, good block as well, and the added advantage of being able to easily sell one of them on when you go for a c2d later :)

£150 inc is about right, just make sure its not the single rad one though.

Have you got a pic of your board? I could have a guess at it for you :lol:

I would say that you will get a decent reduction in noise from the stock coolers, also, you can deduct the noise from the rear case fan as you will be using the one on the rad. You can also further reduce noise by getting yourself a fan controller.

I will be losing the noise from my rear fan but adding another 2 for the rad..

the board has got thermal monitering so the case fan spins up very rarly as it is

I would say that they will fit, because they sit longways, the thing youll have to work out is the routing of the tubing.

You could always plug the rad fans into your board.

It might be worth emailing swiftech to double check on the blocks fitting.
