Network Port doesnt work on first boot

Lo dudes,

I've gained a weird problem.

On Sair's Shuttle ST20G5 the network port doesn't work (isn't active at all) on first boot.

But reboot it, and it's fine, installed and ready for action.

I have found, in Device Manager, (when the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet shows) that there's a power saver available, but it's off.

So why might it be that an Integrated Network card doesn't work until a reboot?

What happens if you unplug and replug the cable in on the first boot, does it work then ?

Power down. PC off. Unplug lan cable. Plug back in...reboot.

Nope. LAN Cable in or out or both doesnt effect it.

It needs to be Restarted, ie the power never goes off, Windows restarts. Then I get LAN

If the power goes off, the LAN goes, until a Windows Restart.

Weird huh?

Also worth noting, this BIOS has the option of Enabling a LAN ROM, so I did, and you get a seperate BIOS for the LAN as an option. Have tried both ROM on and ROM off.

And NO I don't feel like a BIOS flash.....yet!

I must note that, apart from this small problem, this machine is lovely. Quiet as a mouse, and beautifully made.

Just needs to be rebooted everytime

Proper Weird update

If you unplug and replug in the Power Lead and then reboot, you get the Network Connection back.

In fact the network port lights up when the power lead goes into the back of the PC

Not sure if thats a hardware or a BIOS issue, but defo update it to make sure

Have you turned off all 'power saving' features in BIOS to ensure that it's not going into some kind of strange 'sleeping but listening' state?

I would disable everything network related in BIOS apart from the actual network port enabled and see what happens.

Looks like when the power is still to the motherboard (even though the PC is off) the network port is getting in a strange state.

I've not got it sussed yet. When the PC is powered down, but not disconnected from the mains, the netwrok plug is still lit up, BUT once its rebooted from this state the light goes out.

BIOS updates on Shuttles page doesn't show this as a change.

The Firewire port shows as a network adapator all the time. I don't use Firewire networking though the Firewire port for vid camera will be used.

PC is lovely, but we just have to unplug it from the mains to get it to work on boot.

Will look into a BIOS flash.....soon
