Why should i not go AMD?

Ok after trying to put together pieces and reading various peoples set ups i have come across the following trend over the differences on the two rival processors companys: AMD and INTEL.

Im not quite sure why people make this claim but the thing i do understand is the price difference!

My question is why shuld i not go for AMD when there is a price differnce like this: (all taken from SCAN)

1. Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, Socket 775, 2.4 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 4MB Cache, Retail

=£161.49 Ex VAT £189.75 Inc VAT

2. AMD AM2 Athlon 64 4600+ Windsor Core, Dual Core 2.4GHz, 2x 512KB Cache, Retail

= £110.99 Ex VAT £130.41 Inc VAT

PRICE DIFF = AMD almost £60 Cheaper

The core 2 (Intel) is much faster than the 4600+.
The GHz rating of a processor is not an indication of how much work it does - there is a lot of other factors.

have a nosy there. its sad but true, the core 2 has made the A64's dominance over the P4 look pretty slight.

the e4300 would be more comparable with the 4600+, and will leave it in the dust if you overclock

core 2 duo IS faster

BUT

if you are a primarily a gamer from what I have seen (I think it was a bit tech article) it wont gain you much in detail or resolution because games are so limited by graphics cards rather than cpus

so its down to you

but intel is faster at the moment.

i cant belive that that instel have completely wiped out amd
i was gonna get a 3800 amd but now i might eiether wait of spend a bit more and get a intel core duo 2.
intel have done some seruious work.

ok i just had two pc's one intel one amd.
one had basically the same setup aka 1gb of ram,7600gt graphics card etc.
amd fx62 based pc £1000
intel core duo 6400 based pc £700
thats £300 less and the cheaper pc has more power.
i didnt think i would go back to intel after my current pc but wow!
i have always liked the idea of intel core duo thou they have done the same thing centrino done for the laptop.
ultimate performance with less power usage and cheaper as well.

Very few I'd imagine. I'm looking to get one later in the year (or maybe quad core by the time i get around to it) to feed my compiling/encoding addiction, and probably add hardware virtualisation to it via kvm.

e4300? £110. It will beat that amd at stock speeds and will easily overclock to nearly 200%.

Edit: It looks like quite a few beat me too it (I should really refresh more)

The C2D' are faster.
There has been many bench mark tests to prove it.

The real sickener if you have an FX series CPU is that they are around 4X the price of a faster C2D chip

Heh, I remember when Hexus had a first sneak preview of the C2D the majority of people were burning the midnight oil coming up with conspiracy theories.

How many people with a Porche actually get to drive it at 160MPH? Very few, but it doesn't negate it's desirability or the fact that lots of people want them and have them.... because they can!
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.
