    AW9D-MAX .... Confused

Right...looks like this is the board for me.

As i have said before though, im new to this PCI-E stuff and have one question.

In the product description it says its 'Cross-Fire' ready.

Am i right in assuming thats the ATI cards?
If so, can i not use the 8800GTS in one? or possibly in SLi?
Do these run only Crossfire, or is SLi with NVidia cards ok?

Sorry for sounding dense but there is alot more choice now than when i bought my last full set of components (18months ago).

The aw9d-max with run cross-fire all day long without a hitch as its made for that. You can use any nvidia card on its own I.E 8800gts, gts, 7900, as long as its a single card. Now you can run SLI but with hacked drivers for the 7 series which means you cant use the 8 series yet until the drivers are hacked for the chipset.

SO to recap x-fire is fine, using a single nvidia card if fine, but sli is possible on hacked drivers for the 7 series not 8.

Have a read up in the A-bit section of hexus and you'll find some info there re-aw9d-max. Chap has done extensive modding to one.

Hi Blitzen. i have used this board now for the past 3 months and it is rock stable. Just a couple of points. make sure you only have a need for 1 PCI slot, I run an X-Fi in the only slot now the missus wants to run a TV card off it so I am having to change the mobo. You will also need, if you are running DDR2 800, to flash it to Bios 1.3 as in my case as the Dominator ram was only recognised as 667. You will possibly need to change the TFRc to 40 to 42 for it to run at 800 stable. Bios 1.2, the version on my board when I got it did not show on the bios screen.
Apart from that quirk its a well sorted board. The on board sound is good, not quite as good as an X-Fi but good enough for daily use.
It also runs cool and you have complete control of your fans via the uGuru software.
    Its a good invetsment.
The support from fellow users is brill and was one of the reasons I went for Abit.

Link is to the Max section of the USA Abit forum and conatins a wealth of info.

Your a star m8. thanks for that. Although I may still go for the Abit QuadGT, looks to be a promising mobo and then keep the Max as a backup board. Thanks again shaithis.
