    A8N-SLI Deluxe HD Curiousity

    Hello,

Just found some reasonabley priced copies of Vista on OEM and seeing as I have a spare hard drive new and still boxed I thought I'd dig into my pocket and see whats its like, especially as people keeping asking me my opinion, would be nice to give them something first hand.

The thing I am unsure of though is if I can get another drive into my setup. I have the physical space but the main four SATA ports (red in colour on the board I believe) are already taken up by these drives. There are another four SATA ports next to it (black I think) but from what I understand they are for RAID setups, does this mean they can't be used to add single drives, can they only take RAID'd pairs?

I'm sure there are plenty of A8N owners out there who can help and as usual its much appreciated.

    Regards,

    Leonard

Yes you can use the black ports for single drives (just as you can the red ports). One colour is for the SiL controller, the other for the nVidia one. Both controllers 'see' drives as single _unless_ you create a RAID set (i.e. by configuring a RAID set in the SiL or nVidia BIOS') so just plug a play

You can even plug drives in whilst the system is running (i've done it) too.

Awesome! Cheers man, I was getting worried I'd have to find someone to buy that spare drive, now I can be worried about all those vista troubles I've heard about.

    Thanks again dangel
