ok, now which upgrade path??

Ok, so I've upgraded my graphics card from an Nvidia 6800GT to a 7900GS. The performance and visuals from my FPS games are better, but not TOO dramatic. Now, I want to upgrade again but I'm not too sure what is the best option. I have about $500 to spend. I've heard and done a lot of research on the Core 2 Duo CPU and I do want it. Is it so much faster than my current CPU? (see my system specs on the left). I did go into the CPU charts and the Core 2 Duo is obviously faster so that's a given. If I want that, then I'll have to buy a new motherboard since my current one only supports AMD.

Ok, so to make a long story short, what is your advice on upgrading my current PC?

1) upgrade the CPU to Intel's Core 2 Duo (that means buying a new mobo too).

2) upgrade and install more RAM

3) install another 7900GS graphics card running in SLI mode.

Which option would have the most profound effect on performance?

Also, if you can choose 2 options, which would it be, just in case I want to go over my budget.
Also, is the Intel E6600 that much faster than a E6300 overclocked?

If its for gaming buying something like an 8 series would be your most noticeable option. That CPU still has some like left in it. SLI is a waste of time apparently.

E6600 wont break a sweat clocked to 3.6ish ghz

E6300 will clock nicely to around 2.8 - 3ghz without too many problems going from what i've heard

i'd sell your original GS and get a 320mb 8800gts..they're around £180 here...dont know about the states..

Low budget:
E6300 or probably better the E4300 (clocks better)
Gigabite DS3 mobo or ASUS PB5
1 - 2gb of pc6400 ram (the ram from my pc << is around £120 here now..again dont know about you
So to this point your looking around £300

core 2 duo sli boards are very expensive..circa £170+ for a good one.

Graphics card from what you have...I would say get the 8800gts in 320mb form if you're on a tight budget or 640mb if your not. forget sli and sell the gs you have.

Higher budget:

E6600
PB5 mobo (delux version maybe), EVGA/BFG 680i if you must have sli
Same RAM or similar
