    P4 Advise?

Hi all, i'm looking to do a small upgrade, going from a Dell 5000 with a P4 530 3.0Ghz to a small form factor Aopen XC Cube Black EZ915, which can take upto
    Intel Pentium 4 650 3.4Ghz HT.

Main reason for upgrade is to firstly get rid of rattly Dell case, secondly to upgrade ram from 1gb to 2gb.

Would i see any benefit from upgrading the CPU? probably cost me £30'ish after i sold my current one. Thanks

Not from the p4. If you could change to core 2 duo though you would see a difference.

Thanks guys, if i could justify dual core and had a little more cash then i would do in an instant, but for internet, torrents, bit of video & photo work and low res BF2 thinks its too much cash to spend atm.

I'll have a think about this, but think i should see a performace boost from 1gb to 2gb ram more. Sam

Will the motherboard not take a dual core P4? They are pretty cheap........

changing the cpu to another pentium wont do much, although the hyper threading is a bonus if your cpu doesnt have it then you'll see a noticable performance difference, the extra ram will allow you to run the windows kernel in ram and it will be much more responsive, plus you can run more applications and have no pagefile if needed. but if you had the money you should upgrade to core2duo. Lets hope amd make something better.

Unfortunately not, its an Aopen XC Cube Black EZ915 with the 915G Chipset, so max is P4 3.4Ghz with HT, buts its only £94 delivered, so my the time i come to upgrade again hopefully core 2 duo will have dropped in price!

ohhh are you asking this same question on tomshardware? if you arent then ill say the same thing. if you can only get a pentium, get one with hyper threading as it makes a difference.
