Colour laser; new drum or new printer?

I have got a 3 year old HP 2500L colour laser printer which has done sterling service but now needs its second imaging drum replaced. I was somewhat shocked to find that the replacement drum at circa £100 is almost half the price of a new HP 2600n colour laser printer. The only difference between the two models seems to be memory (2500@64MB against 2600@16MB) and lack of postscript support on the 2600. I am in no hurry, so the less memory shouldn’t matter and I don’t knowingly use Postscript. Am I missing something fundamental here?

fundamental? does the new one come with any toner carts? if so i would chuck the one you have and make the "upgrade".

really starting to feel the trouble at work with keeping a laser too long, we have a Magicolour 2300DL that the boss refuses to just dispose of. print quality is going downhill fast, in a way that changing the drum wont solve, and its squeaking like an angry mouse.

chuck it, and start fresh and new

I'm facing a similar dilemma my epson c900 is about to need a complete new set of tonners (£350 ish branded or £120 refill) so am wondering about a new printer but would probably go for an epson.

the 2600n is a bit crap really. it's a host based printer thus why postscript is gone. the 2605 is a much better printer. i guess it all depends how and what you're using it for
