Slightly wacky motherboard idea
Some random Friday ramblings...
VIA have already made a northbridge with integrated CPU, which they put on things like Mini-ITX boards. Strikes me that they could quite easily include an Intel compatible FSB on there as well, and have a motherboard that out of the box runs as a 1GHz C7, but has the ability to accept a Core2-Duo instead giving a very cheap PC with both integrated graphics and CPU that can be upgraded to a power house. The C7 CPU takes a tiny amount of silicon, so should hardly increase the cost of a mobo. I'm thinking something like the P4M890 as a base.
Handy for diagnostics too.
Sounds like an ideal Asrock product :D
Wouldn't work so well for an AMD as the northbridge there requires the AMD cpu to run the memory and a seperate C7 DIMM socket involves extra cost, though again Asrock have made products like that (remember the combined S754/S939 board?).
Is it just me who would buy such a board? If so perhaps I should get me coat ;)
