Since EA took over DICE they have gotten greedy and don't seem to care. With Battlefield 1942 there was loads of new patches that added content and fixed things quicker. From there it's went downhill IMHO with the series. I'm hoping that Quake Wars is going to teach Battlefield a lesson.

    Re: Battlefield 2142

I never bought BF2142 because I know it would be like this having been an avid palyer of BF2.
I'm still of the mindset that I'll buy 2142 when they fix BF2.

You can buy BF2142 from Argos for just over £7, apparently there is a shortage for walk-in stores but you can order and reserve for your local store.

    Re: Battlefield 2142

My personal opinion is that BF2142 rocks!

Just get the conflict mod (conflict2142.com), and you'll see what a REAL bf2142 is
They modded it, changed kits, changed weapons, added a lot of BF2 vehicles and maps.
But the best of all is: The gunship has a machine gun for the pilot! (own infantry )
They also made a bomber, modded gunship so the gunner can drop heavy bombs, very effictive...
Also a good thing is they removed the overheating on the machine guns in the support kit, you can now make swiss cheese of your hostiles!
AR rocket is now 1 in a mag, and is mostly used to shoot vehicles off their path, its like a ramming rocket, if a gunship if flying next to a tree and you hit it with the rocket the gunship will be slammed against the tree (its so fun if you do it xD).
Added a Widowmaker tank, its like the hovertank but more powerfull (only seen on the training map i thinkg) and the Catapult, you could say its a sort of small nuke (can take out everyone near a flag) but its hard to steer, its like the APC wich shoots steerable rockets.
They are also planning on making a titan mode and importing the fighter and bomber jets from BF2 for it !
Well If you wanna know more just visit the site:
    conflict2142.com

About the vanilla version (the original version by EA, thats how we call it at cf2142), the worst thing i think there is is that the sentry guns can shoot trough the titan walls. Really makes my fricking crazy!
Otherwise I don't have a lot of problems with it
Ooh yea! I hate the recoil on the Baur in the vanilla version (decreased in cf2142)

    Re: Battlefield 2142

Hi all. Just to resurrect this thread instead of starting a new one...
I just got BF2142, have been playing single player to get the hang of it, and now I want to get online. I've never done online gaming before, only LAN, so I don't know anything about it really.
I have a few Qs: One, do I have to install PunkBuster, and do I need to worry about it being nasty spywareish nonsense? Two, is it ok for someone like me, who is not by any means a great FPS player to rock up to a server and join in? Three, can anyone recommend a good server to get involved with?
    Thanks!

    Re: Battlefield 2142

    Hi Million,
Unfortunately i stopped playing BF now sinse CoD4 came out but i would definately get yourself online, the single player is just not the same. It will be a bit daunting and probably frustraing at first because everyone else will know the ins and out.

Yes you hgave to install punkbustr which can be and unbelievable pain in the arse! check out evenbalance.com make sure it is up to date and read the various FAQs on how to get it working if u have problems. It doesnt have spyware in it to my knowledge.

    As Biscuit said; PB is necessary. Just thought I would add a few handy links;

    PunkBuster services

    PunkBuster setup

Install the services, then run PBsetup, add 2142 and update.

Everybody who plays the game was a n00b at some point. If you can get yourself in a decent squad, you'll find you can pick things up quite quickly. Just stick close to your squad leader and give out health/ammo and they'll love you for it

I'd recommend you get involved with a community; people who play for fun, rather than playing to win. Since shameless pimping is bad manners........

    <discreet link>

    ........ you'll be welcome there.

    Re: Battlefield 2142

Thanks for the advice guys, I got punkbuster, got online and have received my first promotion. It's good once you find a server where there aren't too many amazing players! I just joined battlefield brothers forum too, so hopefully that will be useful. I now also have BF2 with special forces and armoured assault, so online gaming here I come!

    Wow lol another CF2142 player

My BF2142 name is BF.Mac and I know that after a while Pubbing gets really boring, thats why I joined a tournament to actually get the squad cohesion, organized and fun battles that Dice promised on pubbing LOL.

You really should try it out as it will give BF2142 a new lease of life, and hey if you don't like it you can just leave?

If your interested the URL is Conflict 2142 Tournament - 2142 Tournament using Conflict2142 mod and battles are fought every Saturday for 8 Hours (Come and play whenever you want within that time) starting from 5PM GMT/ 12PM EST.

    Hope to see ya there,

    Mac (BF2142)/Mit321 (Hexus Forums )

    Re: Battlefield 2142

If you are still getting problems with the 1.40 patch after checking the PunkBuster A and B are allowed by the Firewall, try these.

BF2142 Tech Support - including Vista issues - Electronic Arts UK Community

Game map won't load and game hangs
Ok, the default folder as you know is C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142. Get to this folder, then click "Tools" and the "Folder options". Now click "View" and make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button is ticked, then scroll down a little further and make sure that "Hide Protected Operating System Files" is UNTICKED!!!

    press ok >

you will see a file called 'radial.cdb' >

rename to 'oldradial.cdb' to force a re-download of ads.
Make sure that your Punk~Buster install has not been screwed with the BF patch. A simple utility can be found from here:

    PunkBuster Online Countermeasures

That sight contains all sort of goodies regarding PunkBuster issues.

I had to do all 3 tricks to get my BF2142 working after the 1.40 update. Good killun... I mean luck

    Re: Battlefield 2142

Not played 2142 since I reinstalled windows ages ago, went to fire it up the otherday n it asked for the disk even tho the disk was in the drive, uninstalled, reinstalled, same thing, complete reinstall of windows later and its still not working and asking for the disk still, no scratches on the disk and nothing on the machine other than the drivers. tried retail and patched and its not wanting to work, oh well no great loss..
