It worked fairly well with a bit of white paper, but need that LED to make it work good enough to use.
So where can you buy a hat with a built in LED
I can get in working when not in the game, causing merry chaos with my cursor, but as soon as I'm in FB it doesn't work. Hmmm ...... this'll take some time to figure out I think.

Still no luck getting this working in the game. Anyone got any tips?

stick it into no edge limiting modeOriginally Posted by Mobydick
also adjust ur mouse sensativity
it will also help to darken the room if ur using an led
there's also an option to adjust thr framerate in the cfg file which may help to lower it from 40
here's a rather crappy pic aken by the webcam showing my led which is connected to the power led header on the mobo and fed out thru the case
Yup - tried all that - 'cept for the LED. I've got a black cap with a white label stuck to the peak.
I've got the curser moving according to my head movements just fine, it just won't activate once I'm in the game

i presume u leave freelook running when u launch the game and you have assigned a joystick button to enable it when in game?
if u have and it doesnt enable alt-X is supposed to enable it aswell
Yes, I leave it running, and have two of my joystick keys assigned to enable and centre it.
I've tried the ALT-Z/ALT-X thing, doesn't do anything.
I've left a message on the freelook forum, so hopefully the developer will have the answer

If I leave it running - it carries on working for about 2 minutes, and then just stops.... dunno if it's the webcam, my crap marker or me not keeping my head in the right place... also the sensitivity is way way way too high - I flinch when cannon shells hit me, and i'm looking at the floor when I want to be seeing which way the world's going... Think I'm gonna stick to me hat switch for now.

hmm - I have the mouse set o the fastest speed, cos it's just too slow otherwise when I'm mousing - and I despise mouse acceleration with a passion (running Win2K here) cos it does me head in...

Hat, if this works in LOMAC it's beer time.
tried it out on the gsv server earlier and got 8 kills in half an hour
Hmm, well it doesn't seem to work very well in LOMAC. Biggest problem is the range of movement. It only seems to move about 6" around the cockpit - can't look over to 9 o'c or 3 o'c. 11 or 1 o'c is about as far as it moves. Tracking isn't perfect, but then I need a darker backdrop to work against.
Despite having the threshold turned up to the top it's still picking up stuff behind me. Still, should be able to get this sorted easily enough.
I solved the problem of getting it to work ingame by changing the line mouseuse=2 to mouseuse=1 in the conf.ini file in IL-2.
Main problem now is controlling the thing. If seems a little unpredicatable, and drifts about alot. Also doesn't seem to like looking beyond a 90 degree (in game), so no view of my six. I guess it'll come with a bit of tweaking.

Latest experiment is with a light instead of a white marker. As I don't have any LED light to hand (not strictly true, but I blew that one in an earlier experiment with a battery), I have attached a clip-on rear bike light to the brim of a dark hat . It seems to work (slightly) better than the white marker. Anyone catching a glimpse of me in such a getup might have cause to question my sanity though Maybe it'll set a fasion trend
