    Guild Wars Blues

    hehe

It has been just over a year since I last played GW. Had to contact the support team to get my details back, I had forgotten them

But what I do remember, and have alas experienced since getting back on is LAG...MAJOR LAG.

Some of you have been playing a while now. Do you have lag? do you have any tips to rid the game of it to make it playable.....my ping can go from 400ms to 10,000 ms and freeze for anywhere between 0.5 and 10-15 seconds. I usually come out dead at the end of it.

If I can't improve it, I doubt I'll continue, probably one of the reasons I packed it in the first place

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hi Impy

I've only just started playing so I'm not an authority on it but I don't recall experiencing much lag so far. Maybe when I get into a large party it might occur.

    ISP is BT.

I am at the end of a long line - so only get 256k speed if lucky - but was more than okay to play WoW.

Have tried in window mode, none-window mode, low res, everything turned down....etc. Just pings like a dead slug and lags worse

There is no downloading in the background, the only other things running are AVG and Zonealarm.

The lag is in groups, small and large, and mainly the worst is generally out of towns. Towns tend to run ok, but get a few people around and it grinds to a halt again.

Sounds like it might be just me then.

If anyone knows anything, I'd be greatful for a bit of advice.

    Cheers

I get lag also on BT, not as bad as that hough. Average ping is around 150, for me it is when I first load up or anytime ingame when I go through a portal to enter a new area. Sometimes I can be waiting up to a minute before I can even see my character onscreen.

If you have the homehub go into the settings and create a game profile, you can do this under the advanced settings once logged in. Allow the game to access all available ports and it could sort your problem out.

I don't suffer lag, neither does my friend who is also with F2S. However I friend who is with orange suffers is ALOT. Drives him insane.

I use Orange broadband, and haven't had a problem in the past few months, although I haven't been on for a little while.

    Hhhmmm

Intermitent with a few people, at least that helps rule out a number of possiblities - ie I dont have a funny programme in the background ruining it (we can't all have same loaded)

I'll play around with the BT router to see if it helps( new to these things - last was a Virgin ISP modem).

Thanks for your help guys. If I can improve it I hope to see one or two of you in the game, though I am only lvl 14 - lag too great to complete missions at this point. If I can't improve the connection I suspect I'll pack again, which is a shame, as the expansions look okay.

    Cheers

Ping times in GW have gotten higher for me from around 40-50ms to 150-250ms (average) in recent weeks, I had put it down to Virgin media cable tbh.

all my GW is fine for me.. ping might stretch to over 300 sometimes during large lobby but thats just during the start of the map loading.. it then drops down to low 20s.

    I'm using Telewest (Virgin Media)..

    Crickey

Managed to play all last night with a max ping of 230 ish and average of 100 !! What a difference - no lag, completely playable.

Wonder how it happened and how I can ensure it gets repeated

There is a major problem with ping/lag atm on GW servers (european mainly), after doing some investigating (GWguru & GW official site) and they are looking to fix it.

In the meantime, I 'd suggest using International District as the lag there is minimal.

I had major problems last night. Pings of 3 seconds at points.

Weird thing is, one of my friends who lives about 800m away and is with the same ISP was fine.

    It's crazzzzy.

Its gone again. Oh well, I suppose it doesn't have a monthly charge to get upset about.

Shame it is not very stable, might have thought about the expansions had it improved and maintained its reliability.

It's just over a year since I stopped playing, but as far as I remember, GW euro servers (especially english ones) always suffered lag spiking more than the US servers, no clue about Asian ones. I think the excuse ANet gave was datacentre issues or something, but with loads of 'Europeans' jumping ship over to the english servers, it meant that they were stressed more than others.

If your computer is decent, then there isn't really much you could do about it afaik. Avoid crowded cities, especially LA eng 1, Droks eng 1+2 at peak times, (can't remember the other major cities) etc... at peak times (and don't forget local chat block ).

You could also try and avoiding large battles, although this kind of kicks PvP+half the fun in the knees. My replay value of the game would have dropped seriously if I did that though, especially if it had to include GvG. I always found that I lag out at the worst moments, like if we were in the middle of a ranked match.
