    Question IL-2 .... but behind a firewall

Im at uni at the mo, and as such I dont have access to play online (which sucks ) but Im still wondering, is it worth me shelling out 7.99 + whatever for a joystick, just to play single player... I should be able to play over the Uni network, and I probably would if I can convince anyone else to play too (I can probably get 2 or 3 at least to start with).... but how many people would you Ideally have on a server?

Also Do I have to run a dedicated server to play, or can I fire it up and let others join on my PC?

Finally, Ive had a look at joysticks, and I dont wanna spend too much, as Ive never played Aeroplaney type games before. I mean I spent 20 mins on US Marine fighters type thing about 7 years ago and didnt like that too much, but I suppose I was too young to spend time on something that seemed at the time, too hard to be fun

I read the stickys, and Ive seen Trig swears by his Cyborg, and that seems like a reasonable stick for a reasonable price, but checking on dabs (did a keyword search for "cyborg", returned 3/4 (i forget) different sticks, all varying somewhat in price, so any reccomendations would be welcomed.

Right to sum it all up, Ive asked shedloads of questions, please try and remember the first few, as if theres not too much point in me getting the game, I dont need to know about the joysticks as much....

sod it, any response is better than nothing... cheers

I'm only a beginner too, but I got a Cyborg 3D Platinum and it's great for me!

It feels quite responsive, has a hat and throttle and quite a few programmable buttons.

All in all, I think it'll do me until I can afford an X45!

You can run a game and have others join it locally on the network you don't need a dedicated server, ideally you need 3/4 people on a small map but you can play one on one and have just as much fun.

I have the same cyborg as trig and its a damn good stick, i highly reccomend it, but if you can get this deal - http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=11075, from pc world its definatly worth the cash aswell.
