    Heeeeeelp please

    alright I'm a fecking IL-2 n00b ( and admit it )

What I need to know is ... HOW do I take off ?

I usually just taxi down the runway, get about 100 ft in the air and nosedive into the ground everytime I try to play this game.

So come on - it looks like you guys can play so help a n00b take off

Have you watched the training on take-off? It should help you.

Set your flaps to take-off by pressing v twice and hold down the brakes by pressing b then set your throttle to 100% and when you hear the engine rev-up fully release the brakes.

Your plane will wanna veer off to one side so keep it straight using the rudder and when you reach speeds of about 160+ slowly pull back and get into a climb of about 5-10%... in other words really slow. You can't just pull up and go vertical like a jet (which is what I found out the hard way!).

Once up, bring up your gear by pressing g and keep it steadily climbing till you reach speeds of 220+ and then bring up your flaps by pressing f twice. You should now be up and flying.

I wouldn't advice this for many planes. If you throttle up too quickly a front heavy plane can nose over. It's better to bring the throttle up gently, until you're rumbling along at about 70kph and the tail has lifted, before opening the thottle completely.

Take off speed is usually about 160 kph. Remember the wings need air going over them to produce lift. If your airspeed falls below about 140/160 you are liable to loose the lift and stall. You also need to think of the way the air flows over the wing - the angle of attack. If you pull your controls too violently, changing the angle of attack, you can lose lift if this angle becomes too great, so be gentle with the controls until you get a 'feel' for what the plane will do.

This link explains angle of attack - http://wright.nasa.gov/airplane/incline.html

Fair point, but that's what they advise in the tutorial though. But then, I haven't flown much other than an IL-2 so haven't got much experience in other planes.

    I'm a noob too see.

Maybe it's a case of the n00b knows best here I just tried the brakes on, 100% throttle on a few nose heavy planes, (P-40, Mig 3) and had very nice trouble free take offs . I guess the trouble occurs when you increase throttle suddenly with no brakes. So two methods - gentle, easy throttle, and full throttle/brakes.

ahh, but there are a few planes that the 100% throttle and brake trick doesn't work with

I-16 and I-153 are prime candidates for that, if you try it you'll end up flipping over before you even get a chance to get up lol

after you go in the air at about 100ft do u push foward on the joystick??... cause that would make you nosedive!!

I got taught to take off properly on the net by luke313 i think... its fairly easy... just not when people crash meters away from you taking you out!!!
