It's for registered pilots, flying with registered squadrons matey. It's a LOT more interesting than standard "air-quake" For one it gets the adrenaline pumping, cos the emphasis is on getting home alive - and more often than not - simply getting every plane home gets you more points than shooting stuff down. PLus it's on full full real settings - the only concession is the speedbar is shown - navigating is dead reckoning (hard) no padlock, icons or external views - you need to be competent at simply flying on these settings before you think of trying to fight - as you'll end up with a huge negative score (you get -20 points for a KIA) The other EXTREMELY important thing you need is voice comms - comms shoot planes down, cos your buddies can watch your 6 and know what you're gonna do next without having to waste time typing - time you don't have in a furball. Thing to do is get on comms, and pester us in hyperlobby - any one of us will be happy to host a game for you - fly with us, and you'll learn and then we'll see if you've got potential to be in the squad - you don't have to be particularly good, but the team spirit and willingness to learn must be there.
Cya in the skies soon matey![]()

also get into the full real or nearly full real dogfight rooms - especially those associated with VEF. Virtualpilots_2 can be good. Greatergreen offers nearly full real. But as Tumble said, the onus in VEF is on survival and teamwork, which is never as important in a DF scenario.
in VEF you fly with the plane sets assigned for the period the campaign is set in (currently Kuban 1942), so it's also good to get familiar with some of the 'rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishtier' planes available
there is also VOW - http://www.vow-hq.com/ . you don't need to be a squad member with VOW so it's a good place to get experience, though it's not as good a VEF. there is also Forgotten Skies, I don't know much about this one, seems to be mainly US squads and isn'tr as popular as VEF or VOW - http://www.forgottenskies.com/FWPort...ktopDefault.as
here is the VEF main site - http://66.114.65.249/vov/site/main.htm
'Make mine a Spitfire, Landlord!'
just signed up for VOW but it says missions will only be counted if your a squad member![]()
There are generic BLUE & RED teams for VOW, though I cant remeber who you have to ask to get you posted on them.
Few months ago I would have said that VOW pilots squabble a ot more than VEF ones, but thats not the case. But I suppose they are the same pilots in both both campaigns, just dont read the forums too much.
Too much trolling going on, and the same old faces, whinging about the same old things.
You can fly in VEF as a guest as well, as long as the host doesn't mind.
Obviously you dont get a score, but its a good way of getting a tast as to what its like.
As Tumble said, it's a totally different ball game, though without a ball....![]()
I can confirm what Bob says... you dont HAVE to be registered to fly in a VEF mission as long as the game host agrees... yet it is soooo much better if you are part of a group in some way or another.
Nearly everyone on there uses some form of voice comms and flying as a single player without the detailed info that is being passed around between pilots in a team game is gonna find you alone and in very unfriendly skies very quickly.
This can be very demoralising..
