As for the ratting setup, I have chosen a Prophecy. Couldn't find any decent fits out there for 0.0 Sansha ratting with missiles, so I made my own. Probably crap compared to "pro" Eve players, but I can do over 400dps and tank almost 300 Sansha DPS at 53/47 EM/Therm (I hope Google isn't lying about that percentage split in incoming DPS).

Any good? Didn't get a chance to check it out last night, BNI was out on a strat ops when I logged on last night so the home system was station camped (yawn).
OK, so not a bad evening. BNI's home system was again heavily camped, but I managed to get assistance moving my Prophecy out to a more remote location (not going to say in a public forum though, there are SPAIS everywhere!). I headed out to another anom, not too hard, but easy enough for me to break in my noob fit. Took about an hour to clear (was so many waves!) plus 10 mins to salvage (thanks MTU <3) and resulted in 27.4m in bounties and ~34m in loot/salvage, although that calculator thing tends to be way off.
Not fantastic, but better than ship spinning! Gonna try a harder anom next time, was only a Sansha Forsaken Rally Point.
Its been a long time since I played EVE, miss it to be honest.

I havent logged in in months.....
I dunno every time I think of the good old days and resub.
The I will log in to find the following:
1) The old friends I miss the most left ages ago
2) To get into a fleet (Which for my alliance groups is mainly US though I am EU) i need to get various different coms setup again, mumble, pidgin, TS3. Which asll my logins for have now expired.
3) Fleet actually does nothing, gets blue balled, or ends up being a pos take down.
4) I actually get into a fun fleet, and then RL aggro starts, i have to log somewhere random and am now on the arse end of enemy space all by myself when I come back.
5) I realise, I should make some isk, even enough to pay for that months plexs's, so I start NPCing or if it hot up in 0.0 log the Empire Alt and run lvl 4's
6) Get bored after about a few days and then dont resub.
This happens every 9 to 15 months, I think I am due a login soon!
I little tweaking,

Use the ogres when you have big things to kill, more applied dps.
It may be obvious due to the lack of posts here for a while, but how good is EVE Online currently?
I ask as someone who has still never played it, so I would also be interested in whether it is seen as being possible for a newbie to succeed and enjoy despite the number of people who have been playing it for years already - and if so, would also be interested in any suggestions on how to choose a character name if I did decide to sign up.
I do see that the EVE Online site shows that the trials are now 30 days rather than 14 (and a quick check of their forums shows that the trials via Buddy invites are also for 30 days).
Last I played they were very focussed on the new player experience. There are plenty of corps that take raw newbies and school you up. You don't need loads of skill points to be useful in gangs/fleets, as they smallest ships play their part.
That said they were making it very difficult to spec your skills in everything. They want people to choose paths and focus their skill points in a certain direction rather than being an omni pilot who can do everything. You can still skill all areas, it will just take longer.
As for the name, choose anything you like. You can have a first and last name. Might be worth naming it sensibly if you ever want to offload the char to someone else. My char has numbers in his name and it devalues the char a bit.

Fair enough, losing interest because of feeling you've done just about everything there is to do does make a lot of sense.
The game is far from dead and continues to evolve, in my view, particularly in nullsec.
I think the game in nullsec its taking a few interesting turns as Fozziesov starts to bite and things become more volatile, I am hopeful that some of the big power blocks will start to destabilise and we shall see some changes.
For those who aren't in-game, on July 15th a patch was deployed which completely changes the way territory is held in null space (basically no security, full PvP space) - this is intentionally to shake things up. Along with the recent capital jump changes, the aim is to move away from the days of huge alliances exercising dominance over large amounts of space and the massive fleet battles. Titans are a much less significant part of the game currently.
I am in Nulli Secunda Alliance and we abandoned all our Nullsec sovereignty pre-fozzie like an number of others, I think the changes open up the possibility of some very interesting more skirmish based interactions from smaller entities.
We shall see ...

Hey Guys,
So I have been resubbed for about 3 months now, am thinking of bringing my old corp out of hibernation (J.I.T. Enterprises), if you were an old member thinking of resubbing or coming back into the fold PM me for some more info.
Invite also goes for anyone else thats interested. Havent completely figured things out just yet awaiting to see the response rate. If that doesnt work out I could be in a position to recruit into a 0.0 sov holding CFC / Imperium aligned corporation.
Nimbu on the forums and nimbu in game if you would like to chat there.

I've been pondering trying this (again), installed it but haven't activated my account. I'm afraid of doing the same as I always do. It really does appeal to me as a game, but outside of null it's pretty boring, and in null you HAVE to be in an Alliance, put up with all their crap and you're almost always forced to go on roams, meaning I can never make any ISK or leave the game when I want (coz you'll get stuck in a hostile system and can't log back in or something).
Maybe I will create a trial and check out the changes, have a mope around the forums and see what people are complaining about, see if any old friends are still playing and see what they say. Or perhaps try looking at industry in null, change of pace, and a less hostile environment.
Are you all still playing? What are you doing now? What are your suggestions for returning players (I must ask that question every 6-12 months, LOL)?
