Bloody POSes coming out of reinforced first thing on a Sunday morning. It' just not dignified. I'm beginning to this the reds just plain don't like me.
Anyone having trouble with eve under windows 7 RC 7100?
I've just installed w7 on a spare hard drive and got it all updated and running sweet. I then downloaded and installed eve but when I try to run it, it gets to the splash screen, it thinks about it for a while then seems to close. Although it is still present in the task manager.
I've had a bit of a search online but can't find a solution. I would ask on the EO forums, but I'd just get called a PC noob by all the flamers there. Hoping someone here can help![]()
From here (first on the google search):
Perhaps give that a try?Running the c:\evetest client in the "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" compatibility mode got me past the Apocrypha splash screen to the log on. After a couple more hours, I should have the update downloaded.
It works fine on W7 here, so I suspect its a system config bug somewhere / PC specific cases![]()
Yeah, I didn't get a chance to select a compatibility mode because of the eve installer. I've uninstalled that client though and am going to download the exe file from ccp's alternative download this morning, which I'm guessing will let me select the XP compatibility mode.
Didn't want to uninstall unless I had to though cos it's a 2Gb download, but hey..
Thanks for the replies.
I did my longest ever gaming sting on Saturday / Sunday
I started at about 6:45PM on Saturday and finished at 9:30AM ish on Sunday.... I must be nuts!

Grey, why don't you join Ekchua mate? You've been in our public channel a while now, know most of us pretty well, and since you're a long standing member of Hexus you'd get an instant invite!
Come join the fun we're having in lo-sec, it's all good, even getting caps dropped on you! We might be start level 5's soon, found a nice quiet place to do them (or at least it was quiet at midnight last night!) whilst having a little roam around lo-sec looking for gank targets (1 found, check KB).
Thanks for the invite, would love to joinOnly thing is I noticed you guys use a lot of voice chat, I have no mic since the medussa headphones died and I replaced them with a set of Sennheiser HDPro 280's. My lack of hours being able to play won't be an issue will it? Most nights I will probably get from around 2 - 4 hours max of game time. I get on around 5 - 5:30pm till around 7:30pm then I can't get back on till around 11pm ish - 1pmish depending on how knackered I am and if I need an early night for work xD My week off is over :'(
Only issue is I am yet to run level 2's yet for the rep in the system. I need a complete reboot of missions as when I played for the short few month stint when I started I was doing missions for agents all over the shop. At one point I was doing 49 jumps between agents in my noob days. Now I am sitting around Sobaseki and Jita trying to get agents in those regions and work from there
As for low sec, do you think I would last out there, I have very little in the way of skill points and isk to go low-sec hunting and risk losing clones and ships atm xD
Voice chat - as long as you can hear us, there's no probs. You can always listen and type in the channel, that's not a problem.
Play time - I don't know if corps in general have requirements about play time in EVE, I know it's a big issue in WoW coz everyone has to be on to raid, but believe me, it's not an issue in EVE. I have been offline for the past few weeks (only been playing again since this weekend) and it wasn't a problem, so don't worry about it. We play at all sorts of times, although the majority are on from around 6pm to about 1-2am, but it doesn't really matter, if you're online and want to join in the fun, you can do so.
Missions - we are not based IN lo-sec, just nearby it. Our main system is a 0.5 system and it gives missions mainly to 0.5 and above systems nearby, very rarely have I got missions from the lvl 3 or lvl 4 agents into lo-sec. You don't have to go there if you don't want to.
PvP - As above, if you don't want to risk losing ships (don't worry about clones too much, you rarely get podded in lo-sec unless you're against guys with -10 security status who don't care, but you can easily get away unlike 0.0 as there's no bubbles) you don't have to come. If you wanna join, we can help you get to lvl 3/4 missions with Amarr very quickly where using a Drake that you're skilled enough to use will be able to make you quite a bit of money. Then once you get a few spare mil you can start to fit cheap insurable cruisers to PvP in, so the loss is really minimal and you will gain loads of experience doing it (experience being how to fleet, what commands mean etc).
We're only about 20 jumps from Jita and many of us have hauler alts, so if you need a hand getting anything down we're here to help. Also, and this goes if you're in the corp or not, if you have any questions feel free to ask and we'll try to answer correctly.![]()
