Shame, you'll be missing out on one of the finest MMO's out there are the moment. And as others have said, there are cheaper ways of getting game time.

Plus, it used to be better when the pound was stronger against the euro, can't blame CCP for that though!

To be fair, it takes a while to be in a position to generate that kind of ISK per month and still have some left over to buy ships, modules, skills, clones etc...

    Re: EVE-Online

to upgrade my account from the trial to live is 15 euro's for the first month plus a 5 euro admin fee, so thats around £15 just to get started...

I havent really got into it yet, my ship got destroyed on the 2nd misson, so im just in a capsule at the moment, guess I will just delete my character (when I can find how) and remake it

I just wanted something to play that I could get stuck into, being a previous DAOC/Diablo2/Guildwars player (did 6 months of wow and got bored)

How do I get this additional ship Jay?

also is there any good starter guides with a class/career path?

still got 18 days left of the trial, if i can get into it, then I will consider paying for an account

    Thanks

    Re: EVE-Online

seems Eve can only support 36,000 players, which doesnt seem all that much

Also I lost my 2nd ship now to the same mission, looks like im starting a new character then as the starter ship gets killed very easily

Madman - join out public chan and we'll help you with ISK to buy a better ship

Eve can support a lot more players than that, peek has been 50k+
It doesn't sound a lot when comparing to games like WoW, but you can interact with any player. There are no separate servers in Eve.

Can I just ask, which mission are you trying to do?

Did you do the tutorial? Did you then do the 1st 2 tutorial missions? They are so easy I doubt anyone could lose their rookie frigate on those. After that you are led to 3 more agents in another station that give you military, industrial and business tutorials. They start off pretty easy and give you lots of ISK, items and ships as you progress. They really are easy enough to do in the rookie frigate until the missions rewards give you another ship.

BTW, I'm not trying to say anything bad about you by saying they are easy, I expect you have gone to a level 1 agent somehow and are trying to do missions for them in a rookie frigate, which will be impossible for the majority of them.

join our pub and we can help you, if needed I will jump into the missions with you and help out.

on a side not I have been walking lvl 3's so I expect my next lvl 3 will be a nightmare

I expect, looked at recent upgrades to the backend of EVE it could support upto 100,000 players. I have seen Jita with 1300 in local (all in and around 1 station!) and it runs 100 times better than 4 months ago. I have to hand it to CCP they don't mess about when it comes to new hardware, even daily downtime seems to have been cut to sub 40 mins. I am worried that MS SQL will actually struggle to keep up with them!

Yeah, I remember their update recently about the new storage devices they had got (can't find a link to it now as I'm at work), they were top of the range SSD storage devices with transfer speeds we could only dream of getting on home PC's.

The thing is madman, even though EVE is one huge universe, it's run on clusters that will only handle a certain amount of systems depending where they are in space and how busy they are. So, if there's 36,000 players online and half of them are in hisec, those clusters are going to be a lot more busy than the nullsec clusters as there's a lot more nullsec space than hisec. So the game will occasionally limit how many people can log on to one cluster at a time to stop those players who are in game getting lag or kicked due to too many people on at once (how would you like it if mid mission 1,000 people logged in to the same system as you causing you to lag out and lose your ship?). It rarely last more than a few minutes though as people log off or leave the systems on that cluster as they were just passing through.

All in all, I've seen more DT and server problems in WoW than I have in EVE, and Blizzard have much more money to play with when it comes to hardware.

Sounds likely - I found the tutorials really quite hard to follow - especially the leading to new agents for the other tutorials. They just weren't very clear. But it was easy enough to get a better ship and loadouts and I didn't have many combat problems in the trial - despite my lvl 1 agent frequently giving me missions to lo-sec! (Only 0.4 though - was good money )

I can echo the server thing - I never had to queue for eve, but during my WoW trial I often had to queue to get on the server, sometimes for hours, which really put me off.

your so doing what i did.. its a bit confusing but its the wrong mission to be doing, the ones you want are the storyline style ones (the first has 10 parts) which gives you guns/ship/money.

That must be in as the three pirates took me apart very quickly

I have discovered the 10 part quest now that gives you a better ship, new skills etc...

I am trying to raise 1 Billion ISK from mining and missions...... its turning into a grind fest. My alt is a slave and now lives in a hauler, I keep him happy with TII exotic dancers.

Its going to take a while to raise that kind of ISK though.
