3 new things in one day!

YouTube - menthel back in the saddle

My first ever youtube upload, my first decent go at IL-2 on my new computer and my first play with the new windows video maker.

All in all not bad, apart from the slightly hard and fast landing!

The strafing looked good. Your landing... not so much. But you didn't blow up and would still get full points, so it can be classed as a good landing!

Flaps and gear should come down a lot sooner than just before hitting the ground! A better approach further out would give you more time to do this and let the aircraft settle before landing. Just my opinion though. However, most of my approaches are like yours if I can't be bothered to do a full circuit!

You are correct in the fact that I am impatient! I just want to try and get down. I came in to hard and fast, losing too much altitude too quickly.

Things will improve I am sure!

Had a go myself and managed to post my first YouTube video here as well . That Windows Movie Maker was quite easy to use I thought. Haven't played around with it properly yet though.

Yeah, they capable of taking out tanks as well, which is nice.

Decided to post another movie that I recorded a while ago when I first got 1946. It was to practise skimming bombs and carrier landings. You can see the results here.

Handy tip when landing... trim the aircraft nose heavy.. sounds the opposite to want you want to do, but it makes for a nice smooth landing when you're in your high lift configuration, ie landing flaps out...

Skimming, that looks like fun! I think I may leave that until I have worked out landing.

Trim wise I will try that once I have full remapped my keys, thanks!

Re: 3 new things in one day!

Skimming is pretty easy, just fly low and make sure you pull up before you hit the ship! However, it doesn't work too well when the ships are shooting back at you. You'd be lucky to get away without your engine getting hit a few times. For those you would use a torpedo, but you would only have one go at it (even though the HE111 can carry 2 torpedoes, if drops both at once, which is overkill for all ships bar the battleship).

If you have several unarmed ships in a harbour, it can work quite well. You can attack multiple ships in one run. For example, the A20 can sink 3 ships quite well. I think I have a video of me trying that somewhere, I'll see if I can dig it up.

Found it. You can view it here.

For some reason I can't get FRAPs to record sound. Does it have to be registered to do that?

mine wont either and mines a registered version. Dunno why, it's a sound card issue I think.

Moviemaker is a great great bit of kit. I use it lots.

Thanks! I managed a similar one yesterday, with a very similar landing! A few more flames this time but I still walked away. Practice, practice, practice!

I found the solution (for me at least). It's in the settings: -

Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Advanced (in the volume bit) -> Options->Properties -> Select Input/Recording -> Tick "Stereo Mix"

Mine was set to Mute. Un-mute it and FRAPS now records sounds!
