Company of Heroes - worth playing?

I got a free copy of Company of Heroes with my graphics card and have installed it. It's a pretty big install - several GB. I've also patched it with the DX10 patch.

Is this a worthwhile game to get into? I've just started the tutorial it appears to be an interesting game but looks a bit primitive in terms of graphics.

So, should I persevere with the tutorial or consider another RTS game?

I'd give it a go - it's one of my favourite games though I'm not really a big time gamer - it's one that keeps me coming back to keep playing it though.

Re: Company of Heroes - worth playing?

Are you sure you have your settings turned up? I thought it was and is a great looking game, especially for a RTS. All the little details are great.

As for worth playing: Regardless of what some people might say, it's really down to whether or not you like strategy games. CoH has a very cinematic feel, but it's still an RTS at the heart of it. Personally I thought it was great at first, but then realised I just couldn't be bothered making the effort.

Either way, you have it free. May as well play it to see...

Purchased it, Played it, killed it so fast on the hardest level. Took no more than about 3 days to never need to play it again.

    Enjoyable while it lasted though

The graphics are brilliant as well as sound and collpasible terrain.

It shines in mutiplayer, just about the only way to play. You need to be up for a challenge though and matches can be very close.

Re: Company of Heroes - worth playing?

RTS fan and is the best. Although C&C 3 is better for a quick hour bash online. COH demands more thought which is rewarded well..

Play missions, then play in online.

Re: Company of Heroes - worth playing?

I found it completely intimidating, as a dyed-in-the-wool FPS player.
However, thanks to encouragement from this very forum, I persevered, and love playing it. Terrific game, but I still find it very hard work, and demanding, which is why its so enjoyable.

Re: Company of Heroes - worth playing?

Everyone I know at school plays this. One of them is ranked in the top 100 worldwide.

He makes a big point out of it. He's rather small, so he makes a big issure about lots of things. When we point this out he calls it sizism.

Anyhow, it SOUNDS like fun, but I dare say there's better games out there... but I haven't played this yet, so I'm not 100% sure

Better games? Depends what you are comparing to I guess. Another RTS?
I've never played another RTS so I wouldn't know.

Re: Company of Heroes - worth playing?

    Its a pretty good game.

I got it when it first came out and i used to play it nonstop for hours. The eventually another game took over, but a few months ago i bought it again, and Opposing Fronts, i musta played it for a month and then Team Fortress 2 took over again.

Very good game though, one of the best RTS games.
