    Lomac Gfx

How will the 9600 handle LOMAC, I've been looking at GFX cards since McMav reminded me again that my 8500 is pants, thing is the 9800's are out of my price range and the 9600's are loads cheaper...

How does the 9600XT compair to a 9800 np or 9800 AIW?

Hmm just had a look and the 9600 xt has higher default clocks but the 9800 np has 8 pipelines enabled and the 9600xt has 4 so in theory the 9800np is better bet and only 20-30 quid more in cost.

I picked me up a Rad9700 pro for peanuts. Worth looking out for them since they're the same as the 9800Pro only slightly slower on the clocking. Nothing a cheeky OC doesn't get close to though for a lot less dosh.

Runs LOMAC sweetly as well even on a snail paced CPU like mine.

Overclockers have 9800NP's for £140inc at the moment. Spend a bit extra and you will get a MUCH better card.

Well I spend £200 every 2ish years, most of the decent 9800's are out of my range but the 9600's are loads less than what I'm willing to pay...

I'd buy a 9600 if I thought that they were good cards but the fact that they can be had for a little over the 100 mark kinda puts them out of the running n puts them more into the budget card range...

Dunno WTF is going on in the GFX market atm, when I bought my GF256DDR they were the best cards out, £220 I paid for it, then the Radeon 8500 was £210+ VAT, now theres cards out there for nigh on £300+ VAT

Ok, so these cards are the runners ATM...

Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB DDR TV-Out/DVI - Retail
    £155+

    Hercules 3D Prophet 9800SE All-in-Wonder 128MB DDR - Retail
    £140+

    PowerColor Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB - Retail
    £152+

The AIW features are unimportant as I dont need any of that guff tbh, all I want is a fast card that'll last a few years, doesnt have to be overclockable..

I dont want a crippled 9800 tho so it needs to have the 256bit interface and all that gubbins....

either the first or the last then dont go for the se. The pro's are faster unless you get a SE that softmods. to be on safe side get 1 or 3 on yer list tbh. Bearing in mind the powercolours have had some fan issues.

Well I run a 9600XT with my carp CPU and it runs LO:MAC wonderfully on nearly full high settings!

(after getting all the drivers sorted out first that is!)
