hmmm
One reason i don't think the "kidz" will be to impressed with AOC is the lack of shiny "Epix" and the look of the game :)
The dependency on gear is much less in AOC. The feats/skill set of your class is the main contributing factor to how you perform in combat. You only have to look at wow with people putting low level enchants - beastslayer on or +damage just to have "shiny weapons" makes me laugh. These people will not be impressed by AOC. ( Well we can only hope) :)
Re: Age of Conan Open Beta - 1st of May
TBH i have no clue what your talking about Barrichello :P has i have never played a mmo. the closest i have played of a mmo was guild wars hehe but my general asumption of aoc hitting the 5million mark is because of how kids will think this game is cool due to the violence it has in it.
Lets face it though. wow numbers are made up of mostly kids and its these same kids that could make aoc hit 5million easily. wow cant last forever and soon kids will get bored of it and find something else thats new and AOC could well and truely be it.
For wow to stay on top of mmo they realy need to release a true sequal to the game ie wow2 or else it wont last that long. give it 2 years more and wow will go downhill from there

AOC won't hit 500000 let alone 5million. Considering you've never played a MMORPG you seem to be picking figures out the air.
As for Kids playing WoW, hate to tell you but its simply not true, most people playing are at least 15, not 5/6.
As for WoW lasting forever, of course it won't, but when you get WotLK expansion that is like WoW 3.
The expansions are like a whole new game, again not having played it you really can't even begin to understand what you are going on about.
I seriously think that Warhammer has more chance of doing something than AoC does.

Re: Age of Conan Open Beta - 1st of May
By the ages of applicants we have to our WoW guild I'd suggest even placing the average age group to around 18-21.
Re: Age of Conan Open Beta - 1st of May
WoW is a complete rip off.
You pay a monthly subscription, Plus you pay for the expansions lol.
In Lotro expansions are free and happen every few months. In Guild Wars you pay for Expansions but no fees.
I seriously dont understand how WoW became so popular, but I guess it is because all the younglings play it and end up like this kid in this video:
YouTube - World of Warcraft Addict
Just because lots of children play and get addicted to a game, doesnt mean it is good.

A lot of kids lie about their age and pretend to be 18 in MMO's.
Re: Age of Conan Open Beta - 1st of May
exactly lads, many wow players are kids, when i mean kids i mean the age of around 12-16.
Yes 13-16 is realy teenagers but nowadays teenagers act like immature kids.

An expansion in LOTRO is the same as a content patch in WoW, Happens every few months, 2.4 patch for example, huge new area and content.
I seriously find it difficult to just sit here and watch you say a game is bad when it simply isn't, maybe you don't get it, but almost 10million people do. And no again if you don't play the game then please leave your comments about what age group plays WoW. I've been playing on and off since closed beta and categorically can say that by no means is the population dominated by 12-16 year olds.
WoW is a great game it wouldn't be so successful if it wasn't.
Expansions are so much more than a bit of content, its like a whole new game, so many new things to go and do and see. Indeed the last expansion took me at least 200 hours+ to see each and every bit, and there have been 4 content patches since that have taken many more hours to do.
But as i've said, I don't think AOC will even come close to WoW in terms of numbers. That is the only way you can really measure success in these games....

Corrected for you :)
You know Josh knows nothing about wow, he proved that point in another thread.
I have to agree with you in terms of numbers, AOC won't get the sales, Blizzard have created a monster, i'm sure that no one saw how big the game was going to get, and it just gets bigger. The new expansion will totally blow AOC out of the water. Too many people have put too much into the game to want to give it up. I know a couple of people who may try AOC, but i know that they will be back to WOW in a couple of days.
I'll have to see if i still have an active account with fileplanet and get on the Beta, see how things go.
Re: Age of Conan Open Beta - 1st of May
There is around 50 people from my wow server who are planning on getting it and playing.
Most are now ex-wow now and the general agreement is AoC is going to be good. But no one knows if its going to be great.
Personally the sound of the pvp combat; frantic almost like dynasty warriors is putting me off.
No its not going to beat WoW. WoW just had something.

Now thats the million dollar question. Not sure if its possible to do that, Warcraft has a lot of lore*, starting something from new would need a major brand with a story that can be played through. Warhammer** has a very large following from the table top to the PC. Theres a chance that it could take a chunk out of WOW, but tbh honest i wouldn't hold my breath.
WOW has opened up the MMO market like no other game, its constantly expanding. During my time playing i've met people who weren't gamers, yes they had a dabble in the past, but not what you can call gamers. One women i met was given the game after she was recovering from a broken leg, the only games she had played were Sims, she was actually one of the best Priests i've seen in WOW, and i should know, my main for a long time was a Priest.
* There are some real geeks in WOW land who know the full ins & outs of Warcraft lore. Lots of depth. I just play for fun.
** I'll be on the Warhammer Online open beta when its ready, so i'll be able to compare games better then :)
Geist, i'll ask around some of the people i know on my server, see if many of them are going to be trying AoC. I have a feeling that 2 people i know will try it out (almost a cert bet actually :))

I played WoW, I bought the battlechest and didnt enjoy it. Lotro wasnt really too good either with the rubbish combat sytem and I didnt get hooked to either.
However I have been hooked to Guild Wars from a long time, and from people playing the AoC beta, they are saying that while the game is very unique and not a clone of other MMORPG's (yay, not another WoW clone!), it is close to a combination of Guild Wars, Vanguard and Mortal Kombat, so I am believing that I will enjoy it.
There is lots of anticipation for this game and lots of people are interested in it. Players arent going to keep on playing WoW and Guild Wars forever, they are getting bored of those games and looking for something new. AoC is something new.
Just about my whole guild in guild wars is moving over to AoC. While it may not ever be as successful as WoW, it is deffinately set to be a successful game. And also it wont ever get as many subscribers as WoW has, because of the 18+ mature content which should hopefully keep children out of the game.
But I really dont measure the number of players playing a game meaning that it is going to be good just because 10 million+ people have an account on it. In WoW, a lot of these accounts are bots, and a lot of people, like myself will have bought an account to try it, and given up. But our accounts are still there contributing to the 10 million+ players that have bought the game. Also, marketting plays a huge part in selling a game, and dont forget that WoW has been out for 3 years now. That is 10 million subsribers over a 3 year period, to which Blizzard's marketting has helped a great deal.
Secondly, WoW has an incredibly low system requirement. This immediately means that a lot of people with low end old PC's are able to play WoW, and it is one of the best games available for thm to play. However, I chose not to carry on playing and paying for an outdated game and took a 3 month Lotro subsription, which while it had great graphics, I also didnt enjoy as it was just a WoW clone. In terms of graphics, AoC also has the best graphics yet for any MMO, and they are good enough to last a very long time.
AoC uses a brand new and unique combat system which puts the systems in traditional MMO's to shame. Just about everyone that is playing the beta is praising AoC's unique system and enjoying it a lot more then combat in other games.
PVP is also a lot better then in WoW, and just as competitive and well structured as PVP in Guild Wars. PVP only has 20 seperate levels to PVE, and seperate armor. AoC stands as the first game to seperate PVE from PVP to keep both sections fun, challenging and balanced. For example, while Guild Wars has a brilliant PVP system, the PVE for a lot of people is a total disater, whereas in WoW the PVE experience is brilliant (for a lot of people), but the PVP is incredibly inbalanced at not a fair or competetive experience as Guild Wars PVP is. AoC basically sets the bar up on offering both an amazing PVE and PVP experience without sacrificing either one.
That is all I can think of saying right now. AoC is a far more polished game then any other MMO has been before. Its success will depend on marketing (something that blizzard are brilliant at), player recomendations, trials which will come out shortly after release, and also however many people are willing to leave other MMO's for a new one. And as there are quite a significant amount of players in both WoW and GW that are bored and looking for something new, AoC is the perfect game for them.
Re: Age of Conan Open Beta - 1st of May
Managed to get a Beta key this afternoon :) So currently downloading the 12.9Gb client.
