seriously, when wow was made how many pc's could play it? if for example wow was released in 2000, can a decent gaming rig made in saum 1997,or 1998 be able to play wow?
part of the reason why wow can be played on most systems today is because its a very old game. just look at the original counter strike source, when that first came out not many could play that yet now alot can because guess what ladies, its an old game and technology has moved a hell of a lot since then.
i bet you can buy a £500 DELL desktop pc now that can play AOC on medium with no problem whatsoever. i dont understand one of your reasoning saying that for it to beat wow it has to be able to be playable on alot of pc's but my main question is did WOW initialy support the amount of pc's it now supports now? i highly doubt that.
has time goes by im sure AOC will be compatible with alot of system just like wow
Wow has never needed a high spec machine. It will run on an athlon 2000xp with 512mb of ram and inbuilt mx440.
That is about 4 generations of hardware ago.
I suggest you read up how many people have the top end machines josh, people that play crisis in full depth of colour etc are compared to the number of people who play wow, an absolutely handful.
Graphics DOES NOT MAKE A MMORPG!. Gameplay does, i've not played AOC, but have many years of experience in WoW, and the strategy you are offered in WoW is sublime. You have many ways of doing things and achieving objectives.
WoW worked on word of mouth to a certain extent, AOC will need to impress those people playing and it will need to feed on to other gamers.
As for what we have to base this on, The Pirates MMORPG that came out recently has had to turn off 10 of its 14 servers because of lack of numbers, only 4 servers left on.
PLUS the last thing that i would suggest is going to do in for AOC, is the 13GB DOWNLOAD!, thats instantly limited your audience. Not many people will be arsed to do anything about it, too long, to much to wait in the impatient world we live in.

I think what Kalniel is getting at is that there is now a hell of a lot of pressure on any new MMO to shift lots of boxes on release. If it doesn't, it'll be deemed a failure and finances will be pulled from it pretty sharpish.
Personally I think AoC *might* do enough, but for a lot of people it's going to end up as a stop gap between WoW, WAR and WoW:WotLK. I hope I'm wrong, and that it goes on to be very popular, but WoW will be the yardstick it will be measured by whether you like it or not.
Personally I'll be having a quick shufty at the beta this evening before my guild goes to blow Karazhan up for badges.
Is the final game going to need a 13GB download, or will it be handled by download on demand, like Guild Wars?
The actual GW engine is tiny, and even after playing for ages I had only a 1.5GB data file - I thought that might be close to the final size, but recently I was instructed how to pull down and pre-load all the files by the support team and there were another 3GB or so.
Yes mmo is not all about graphics BUT when will MMO start to use yesterdays technology?
That 13gb is the Beta client size, so you won't be downloading that when the game is released. What shocked me was the size of the final install of AoC. 24Gb Biggest install on my system, i think wow is only 12gb in comparison. What have they got in there that requires that much space?
I think you've hit the nail on the head. AoC will be seen as a stop gap, there is no way it will overturn WOW, it won't come anywhere near. What it may provide is a break from doing the same instances time and time again. But will people be willing to splash £30 + £10.34 on some light relief? Not too sure really. I know for fact i won't be buying AoC at retail, the beta will do me for now.
Has anyone actually got AoC running on there system?
Is it really as much as a resource hog as the minimum specifications would suggest?
for example I have a 1.86Ghz core2duo yet the minimum seems to be 2.4Ghz which just seems ridicolous to me
I do apologise, minimum is 3Ghz p4
Recommended is 2.4Ghz C2D
That's the recommended, not minimum.

Can't log into game Off to play wow then
Also refreshing to see AOC is taking a hard stance on gold selling spam and the like.
On of the new fileplanet open beta players tried to be funny in a typical wow asshat way by spaming global chat with Gold selling. If he had done that in wow - response would be? yes nothing! In AOC - instant ban from funcom. Probably crying to his mum and back to playing wow. Good riddance.
Loving it - respect to Funcom
Sounds good, I know LOTRO is plauged by gold spammers nice to see this refreshing hard stance.
My PC is similar to yours, apart from a slower processor so I am quite happy and really looking forward to giving it a shot
