Age of Conan Open Beta - 1st of May

Ok, right click/select/highlight any "red" player/mob - then take you hands away from the mouse keyboard and watch what happens - if you do character does not auto-attack i would be very surprised

If i did that with any of my char's, nothing would happen, i still have to select what attack option i wanted Plus having played Ranged DPS/Healer, i have no intentions of getting into melee range, as clothies have a habit of dying quickly

If i was to only use the type of attacks you suggested then any fight would take ages, its the other type of attacks that do the real damage, the type that aren't on any type of auto system.

Well took most of yesterday to download and patch... and it wont run.

It starts, I can hear and skip the starting movies (eidos etc.) but then it tries to load some screen with a dais surrounded by a couple trees (character selection screen from looking at screenshots) and it all goes mental and wont go further. Or the screen just stays blank from the start.

Ok background music though...

I had the same issues when i first tried to play, although i just had a blank screen and sound and nothing else,had to alt-tab and close game down.

this game will be amazing. i dont care what some of you say. if i like it then i wont care what reviewers or people say about it. saying if an mmo is bad or good is very subjective. you may hate the combat whilst others may love it for example.

will there be a demo or trial for it? wanna test it out to see if my system can run it

I agree rudeness is never called for, but it's true that you seem to have very strong opinions on things that you've not experienced yet. Both for this and your panning of the X360 version of Race Driver:GRiD which I presume you've also not played. But worse is that you present these opinions as FACT. Fine if you say that in your opinion, from what you've read you don't think the game is very good, but you go on about how the games ARE, repeatedly.

Josh if you could justify your points I wouldn't give you such a hard time. You just make sweeping statements about stuff without having tried it. You have posted so much stuff on this thread about how wonderful a game is without having tried it.

I've posted on several times my feeling of limitations and problems with the game, yet you choose to ignore those, continuing to make these sweeping statements.

Why don't you download it and answer some of my questions rather than continuing to make the same point without substance. The fact you even question when it's out or is there a trial shows you've not read the thread at all, otherwise you'd know the answer to that.

Hell even the topic tells you the beta is OPEN....

Hexus has always been about open and honest discussion, discussion based on fact. If you had played it and liked it and said why, because the combat suited you or you thought it was better strategy then i wouldn't even worry. But you don't.

You admit you've never played a mmorpg, you admit you've never played this game yet you post like you've got years of experience.

i have infact played both the 360 and ps3 version of drift and there near identical and i dont like it. its too arcady. i prefer racing sims like forza2 and gtr2. codemasters last game was dirt and that too felt abit arcady and yes i have also tried that game out. if they dont get there act together F1 will be the same.

You can get a key from the age of conan website can't you? I don't think anyone has a problem with you giving your opinion, the problem is when you assert your opinion as fact, and don't seem content to do it just once either - saying the same thing more than once does not make it any more likely to be true

Fair enough - I'll have a look myself when I get back tonight, sounds like it's a not-so-open beta.

Yep, I paid for a 1 month sub to Gamespy to get my key. In the end it's saved me 25 or 30 quid, so it was well worth it

And Josh - I was quite excited about the game (evidently not as excited as yourself) and so tried the beta. I'm now a lot less excited.

I think that says it all.

Its nothing to do with freedom of speech, its all to do with your apparent disregard to other peoples views. You constantly shoot down what people said, when they've based their comments on full on fact (ie actually played the game in question, you haven't). You continue to evade peoples questions, and answers, if they don't match your own views.

If you changed your attitude then perhaps people would give you more respect, as it is, you get what you deserve. People will not listen to you at all.

Food for thought.

If you enjoy the game fair enough, i know you won't post anything but positives when you eventually get the game.

After only playing the open beta, my opinions are that, yes it needs some work and is far from perfect, but I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, and I cant wait to get going with the head start on the 17th.

I was lucky as I seemed to have a relatively problem free experience, was able to run the graphics on full without stutter for example and my loading times were quick. I found the combat system interesting, and to be honest, what I'd hoped for.

Time will tell how the game will fair with updates and new content, but I'm certainly going to give it chance.

Barrichello, out of interest are you playing a melee char then?, it seems you've not experienced the poor balance of caster classes that AOC are now looking to resolve

I'm trying to find a good replacement for WoW, currently there isn't one in my opinion, all have faults and flaws that have caused me not to pick the game up.

Nope im playing as a Ranger. Yes there are class balance issues to be found over the last few months. It had become evident that ranged was totally "OP" on all other classes. With this i had to concur when i quite simply 2 or 3 shotted equal levels in the pvp bg testing. Funcom have been working/fixing allot of different balance issues (i know due to way over 20-30gb of patches over the last 3 months i have been downloading which has changed and shaped the game)

But please don't even try to tell me class balance was perfect at the launch of wow

Ok, i dont think i really made myself clear - the mechanics of the combat system is totally different, im not just talking about auto attacking or spamming a "i win" button in wow, i mean the depth of the fighting system in aoc is way ahead of wow imo. I never really quite got it until i was way into the early twenties on my Ranger and Assassin while testing. What level did you get your character to in your AOC beta experiences?

Yep same here, technically my experience of testing AOC has been very good (although as usual you will always get some people out there who experience difficulties) Over the 3 months i have been testing i have seen AOC change and evolve for the better and i am looking forward to the finished product and to its future.

Oddly enough I would say the the Classes in WoW were more balanced at Launch than at any other time in the years i've played. As patches come along you tend to find the balance changes and someone twigs on a way to really push the game mechanics to the limit.

I'd say that currently the supposed best class in healing which is supposed to be a holy priest is about 4th in which class is best. As you say patches address this, but do you think its close to being balanced for launch day which is now very close?, or are you going to find a lot of people going for the current OP classes?.
