    Re: CoD4

points and stuff give you upgrades for weapons. ie the more you train with a gun the more you will complete it's upgrade achievements. It's quite silly and tough for new players as you start off with the least powerful and advanced weaps playing against everyone with modded and more accurate guns. But hey you'll get there soon. I managed lvl 55 and most of the guns unlocked after 24 hours of playtime (No not 1 day of continuous playing)

Glad to see another hexite on cod4 pc

    Re: CoD4

well the more you play and complete achievements unknown to you. I had no idea what I was completing when playing but I liked getting rewarded for nothing!

Mostly you'll get guns as you level up, you'll get perks too. The mods will be added as you use the guns and get kills with them. You use the mods by going to the main menu and choosing create a class, then you select a gun and choose the add on you wish it to have, select your perks and such and then when you join a game you select your custom class.

For example ( I don't use this class but here's how you would go about making one ), I would select a sniper gun, then I would select Perk 1 as 2 x Claymores. Therefore I can camp a house or blocked off corner and I can claymore the only entrance to my camping area ( I don't usually camp ).

Perk 2 I would choose either stopping power (more dmg on shots, so lets say you snipe someone in the leg it will potentially kill them on the first hit).

Third perk would be Iron Lungs so you can hold your breath for much longer while sniping for a steady shot.

You'll get the idea once you play a bit more and you'll have soon have a favorite gun

Mine is the P90, although I haven't unlocked it yet, if I walk over a dropped one I pick it up! I do like COD4 (PS3) but still finding using dual analogue its harder to aim correctly and quickly enough.

    Re: CoD4

I've only played on the PS3 version, but I didn't think the starting guns were that bad. The burst fire of the M16 is annoying, but with stopping power is still pretty lethal. MP5 isn't too bad either.

Personally, I now use a silenced G36 when on normal matches, as I usually shoot people from behind, and not coming on the radar is a big bonus. However, I still use stopping power as I find people don't die quickly enough without it. Have to use Bandolier as perk 1 as well, as I tend to survive a lot and run out of ammo otherwise! The best gun I have found for hardcore is a silenced M14 with UAV jammer. Never show up on the radar and kills in one shot!

    Re: CoD4

Online tonight was mayhem.....just people everywhere. So creeping up brhind was out of the question.

    Typical score was

    100-130
    Kills between 10 and 12
    Assists 0-5
Deaths, never below 12 more often above 20

I opted (as ever...my IL-2 friends will tell you) for something hard and different, so went Shotgun. Was horrible until I got into the houses and rooms, but still.....I was getting massacred.

Moved onto an M16 and after a multiple deaths, the braijn and mouse began to connect, and my movements were more fluid and less jerky.

Was coming in top half of my team everytime by the time I retired (10 minutes ago)

    But...

A: I cant add FAVOURITE servers to my list. Well...I ADD them but cant see them in the FAVOURITES option, and if I re add them it says it's already in there.

B: Can you search for players? Cos I can't find y mates unless they're on comms with me to tell me where they are.

B: You can search for mates that are using xfire... I don't know much about it, I only have one friend on xfire (big up moogle)
afaik, its just like MSN but you can see what games they are playing and on what server, and there is an option to join their server directly

My mobo went krack and died on me and I've no case (<---- My System) so I've been off for the past few weeks (Back tomorrow hopefully!)

Yep XFire is a neat little tool to use when gaming. Just like msn but allows you to see what games your buddies are playing, should they allow you or other players to see. It has quite a huge list of supported games and even if it isn't on the list you can request it to be put there and it gets done quite soon. Friend of mine playing a beta mmorpg got his request fulfilled in 3 days.

XFire detects all the games you have so you can launch them from there if you wish. It basically detects your processes from known games. If it detects a multiplayer game it will get the connection info from the game (netstat ftw) and display it on your XFire. Therefore once connected all your mates can see what game you are playing and see the server ip and port. It even retrieves server info to show scores and such. Sometimes you gotta wait for it to retrieve server info as lets say if I connect to the server which requires a mod download (Like in UT2004 downloading extra bits), XFire may think the server ip is the download server and you'll get a failed connection. You'll know how to distinguish between the two anyway.

XFire shows how many players are on the server in the format Players/Max Players so you know if you can join or not. It also gives ping as well which saves time if you want to find a low ping server. It has it's own server browser too but I tend to use the CoD4 one. The join option on your friends server will only appear once XFire has detected them to be ingame.

Now you mentioned adding a server to favourites. XFire keeps a list of your recently visited servers, so when you exit from there you can add some to your XFire favourites list (server side so you wont lose them from reinstalling). XFire offers many other features such as screenshot taking and allows the option of uploading them so people can see it on your XFire profile, you can use it's beta video recording tool as well but I think fraps or others may be faster.

It also allows ingame talk which is a neat feature instead of tabbing out of game, plus it allows voice chat and you can host a room and talk to multiple mates. Although Ventrilo/Teamspeak is preferred to that though

As for searching for mates, it's quite silly you can't I know. Wish they'd implement a buddy system like UT3, but for now you can use Call of Duty 4 Tracker
Basically what that is, is a dedicated server scanning alot of server ip's to retrieve player info, it allows you to register and track statistics and such such as Kills, Deaths and other things. You can create neat little signatures with that info too which are updated as your stats get updated.

    Example

It will find you playing on a server. The only thing is it cannot identify you by your GUID (based on your cd key) so if your friend decides to have a name change you'll have to guess what his name is.

Humm while I'm at it I'll give you the lowdown on the guns.

I'll only detail the good guns or the guns I use in each section.
When you choose the guns they are Split into 5 Groups

Assault, Sub Machine Gun (SMG - Ess Emm Gee), Light Machine Gun (LMG, Elle, Emm, Gee), Shotgun and Sniper.

Assault Rifles range from Medium to High Power and are quite accurate and good at long range.

The M16 is a good gun (semi auto 3 burst fire) for long range because all you need to do is get locked on to someone and with 1 click 3 damaging bullets hit, get it above the chest area and it's a kill.
M4 Carbine (full auto) is my weapon of choice, has low recoil and a decent magazine size. It's not that good on Non Hardcore servers.
G3 is a single shot gun but has high power. It's like a portable sniper weapon but people using these guns get eaten up close as the autos can shoot at a faster rate. So unless you got alot of experience clicking like mad or you know you'll be far from your enemies stick with autos.

G36C - It's a Auto G3 sort of, quite a good gun with decent accuracy and higher damage than the M4 Carbine but only problem is without a Red Dot Sight mod the iron sight on this has a big O at the end and I find it hard to aim with.

AK47 - Good gun with very high damage but it's a beast, you need to have good aiming to use this gun as it's accuracy is terrible. Over long distance it's best used in burst. It's pretty good on non HC servers if you can use it will. The iron sight is real good too as it's a sharp pin so you can really aim with high accuracy on this one.

Sub machine guns take off from Assault rifles, they have higher power, faster shooting but more recoil.

The best one here to use are the MP5, AK74-U and the P90. AK74 has a high rate of fire and sounds real good to shoot. It's great for non hc where you need to inflict more damage for a kill. P90 has a high rate and high capacity magazine too, although the fire rate isn't as much as AK74 it still does quite a good deal of damage. MP5 has high damage but a shorter mag and is very high on the recoil. If you're bad at keeping the gun still try out the Skorpion. It virtually has no recoil and a high rate of fire but it's clip is teeny, so prepare to reload quite a lot.

Light machine guns are used mainly on the 50 man servers where it's basically spray n' pray. I don't use them much but I do pick these weapons up ingame should I need them, ie they have high velocity and penetrate houses deeper so it's good to empty one of these into a camper

Shotguns, as you've found out Zak these are no use in the long range. But get up close and it's a nasty little bugger, mostly used on close up maps like shipment, vacant or when you enter a building.

Sniper - No explanation needed really, my favourite is the Dragunov because of it's high fire rate.

Don't forget the bigger the weapons are the more they hinder your ability to sprint.

LMG's and the Barrett 50 Cal Sniper are the biggest ones and aren't really good if you need to dash somewhere. Then comes the Assault and Shotgun and the least heaviest is the SMG's (you can see how small the P90 is)

Also if you crouch and walk, you don't make any discernable noise. You're easier to shoot but if you check your corners well most of the time you'll catch the enemy by suprise.

Lastly remember to use that Knife, it's really useful if you're like two steps away from an enemy. Most of the time they will try and shoot you but if you press that knife button quick enough they'll get dropped.

I have my Knife key set as F, it's very close to WASD so I have quick access to it. I have G set as my hold breath key and H is my claymore/secondary weapon key. The only other keys I've changed are Chat and TeamChat which used to be T and Y respectively and they were changed to U and I because sometimes when attempting to press R for a reload I'd press T and instead of moving I'd be typing my WASD commands and eventually getting shot. Also turn of toggle scoping, it helps and you'll understand why below. If you want my other settings I have just ask. I think these ones will help you.

Oh yea heres some terminology explained.

HC = HardCore mode, where it makes the game a bit more difficult as it takes less damage to kill someone, the crosshair is removed but if you want you could stick a teeny blutack onto your monitor (Don't use software to draw a permanent one as it will detect it as a cheat) but I advise you not to use blutack or any other and get used to scoping up quickly when an enemy is in sight. When going round corners I strafe and scope and when it's all clear I move through, but there are so many corners so theres alot of scoping. It's longer to have to click again to unscope as you don't remain scoped for quite a long time. Playing HardCore will improve your skill. I usually play Search and Destroy matches but when you die in that you wait till next round. It's good if you want to observe other players (make sure they are good) then you can see how they move about and the tactics they use.

Hope this Helps and if you want some more info on Perks and Gun Mods I'll wear out my keyboard some more
