Nice find Tumble...but it doesn't take into account that even if the prop has stopped turning the Magneto manages to get it turning again...its like there is a flywheel still spinning that none of know about....
need a virtual IL-2 workshop and a teacher dont we ?
Sounds like the IL2 may have a dynamo/magneto combo.... the P40 won't turn itself over.... plus one of the types mentioned in there suggests that the magneto only needs to make 1/12th of a turn to create a spark big enough for ignition....
yeah...turning the prop to a certain position is as per allthe old films

600 yeards :eek: by default.....even with the 8 machine guns, the spread was huge :(
so the advanced pilots who actually made it through the first trials by fire, decided to get service crews to converge them at 200 ish yards.....the fire power was immense at the range they needed it.

RAF flight patterns/squadron formations were very tight, and immensely hard to maintain....every single moment of concentration was on not hitting your buddys..the Germans loved it....we were sitting targets, couldn't see behind each other and died fast :(
The experienced pilots sussed it, ignored orders and survived.....

Extra armour behind Pilots seats was added, contravening the weight regulations for the planes with bombs and extra canons etc.....but the pilots did'nt die so easily...which was nice...some of these "mods" were so good, they wereput into production.

and into Il-2 FB Gaming territory......it has been discovered (by Marlins like Dak and Hat) that if you stall-out in an I-153 or an I-16 and get into a spin, CLOCKWISE then full rudder in the opposite direction does NOTHING (unlike in every other plane where you nose down, power to max, no aerilon, and then rudder opposite)
Because, as these excellent pilots discovered, the torque from the engine was twisting the plane on full throttle....so now we throttle back to tickover and THEN rudder opposite once gravity has got us droping fast enough....
this commnuity spirit :) saved my arse too...
With the help of Dangy Bob, I recovered an I-153 when I punted the carburettor...as normal in a panic, I pushed the nose down too fast, the carb blocked and then starved and the engine died to a bare tickover.....
he shouted out what to do......engine OFF......nose down....wait for the prop to start spinning fast and you're really dropping....then hit "I" for engine on again....throttle up gently...and pull out of dive.
Saved my life :D
I am not sure just HOW complex this games "engine" is, but it is the most realastic I have ever discovered.....
another example, used by D13th-Rhino, after I commited the first part by accident on Wednesday night, and resulting in him killing the I-153
..........we're both in 109s, against a flock of I-153....which while slow, turn so fast that its hard to hit them......and they take a fair amount of bullets cos they are so lightly framed with no essentials hidden in the fueselage...
2 109's...dive hard, seperated by about 5 seconds......first plane (that's me) go REALLY CLOSE.....REALLY FAST.....dont aim to shoot him.....just

the TURBULENCE from the 109 at 650 kph will spin the 153 onto its roof....I know it works...I did it twice in a 109 to a 153 :)
and twice Dak has flipped me over with his P40 going very fast next to me banking hard (1 second after the bit in my film, where he turns in on me and reverse his dive....I flipped :( )

Theyve fixed that ridiculous torque on the pops now.. noticed it on take off..
.. and havent stalled one for a long time... so this stall recovery action may not be so correct now....
I also heard, yet havent tested it or suffered from it for a long long time...or indeed know wheter its true

.. if you happen to bunt the fuel supply out of yer I16s engine, then dropping the fuel mix to 80% will let you restart it.
mine restart anyway?? always have since the 1.11 patch - also He111 engines never used to start in the air - you had to land, and then they would restart, but now you can switch em off and back on again in thair..

I dunno! Magnetos still baffle me.
I'm starting real life flying lessons. My FI the other day was fiddling with the Magneto in the pre flight checks - Magneto 1, Magneto 2, then back to both - and it changed the tone of the engine. I will ask him about it next time.

i asked my FI about Magnetos, and this is my understandng of what he said ~
Magnetos use the turning energy of the engine to store up and electrical charge, like a dyanamo, so that the engine, and other electrical systems, isn't reliant on battery. So, the spark plugs, instead of running off a battery, run off Magneto power which constantly charges. Turn off the Magneto, the charge disappears. Hmmmm....... I suspect I'd have found this out if I'd just looked in a dictionary.
So, to Zak's question. Hmmm.... dunno.
I think it must be a bug..or maybe the Magneto ON function is deliberately linked to the starter motor.
Itsa source of confusion for us all......;)
