About LinkBacksdoes it automatically know how far along you are by the CD key or if you have a massive crash/wipe/reinstall do you have to start all over again?

You'll have to backup your profile. If you crashed you can always use a Lvl55 hack, not a Punkbuster hack or anything that manipulates your game to get you banned, it just makes your profile Lvl55 and you got all the weaps and continue from there.

Most probably was in two ways, 1) Saving on server costs, 2) CDKEY stored in reg as plain text = trojan/keylogger devs dream, more people re-buy the game if their key gets stolen/banned.
I submitted a suggestion to store the key into an online account to which you login to then it can never be stolen or used on another account unless the main holder removes it. Not surpisingly I didn't receive a response or acknowledgement. We'll see how CoD5 goes...

You'll move up fast now you're used to it. Lvl 55 is easily reachable after 24h of playtime
