    ACE mod for ArmA

Anyone picked it up and tried it?

We (iGi) are running an ACE server and I've got to say even in its early beta stages I'm really impressed. Loving the new weaponry additions, and the medical system adds a lot to the team play.

Haven't tried the new 1.01 version mind, hoping to have a crack tonight.

    Re: ACE mod for ArmA

Not played ARMA much since purchasing it as it was slow, but just had a computer upgrade so may reinstall it, I was hoping there were some good mods by now

Just had a quick look on there site and wiki, is this mod going for realism as I saw things suggested such as modelling the effect of heat on weapons etc.

    Re: ACE mod for ArmA

It's realism based yes, but at the same time still maintaining a sensible amount of gameplay.

However, don't for a moment think this has CoD4'd ArmA. It's still very much a case of one bullet can drop you, however that bullet is less likely to be fatal. Firefights tend to go on a bit longer than previously due to slightly increased deviation caused by heat and other variables. It's also possible to be KO'd by a round but not killed by it.

If hit seriously you start to bleed (and can bleed out) and will need bandaging. You'll probably need a shot of morphine too to help deal with the 'pain' effects. If you get seriously KO'd then you'll need Ephinedrine to get your heart going again etc, etc - the medical system is nuts. You can drag people out of the line of fire too so that helps should a team mate get pinged. Saves you being the usual second target for the sniper.

It's still tough on your computer, especially at higher resolutions but I manage OK at 1600x1050.

I dislike COD4 type games, when I do play online its BF2 Project Reality mod.

You'll love ACE then. It's pretty much PR on steroids for ArmA

Latest version (1.01) has just been released too, adds a few bits and bobs though has added a fair bit of sway to none prone positions. Sadly the AI don't suffer from this so are bloody sharp shooters. :/ Oh well, forces you to be a bit more careful I guess.

    Re: ACE mod for ArmA

Is there a trial/demo version of ArmA? Is it purely online only?

Sounds really good from what you describe Lowe. Always preferred the slower kind of FPS (original CoD, UO and CoD2 for example).
