Its here...and in straight over 1.22

Dunno why it worked, but it did

However...Im now very late for work....so I shall leave a few questions for you pilots to try to help me with.

A: Why cant I fly a Glad in a Quick Mission builder...its not listed

B: Why if you THEN go to find it in View Items, then select Aircraft.....is it listed in GERMAN PLANES........

    Whats THAT all about ?

Think it's in the Axis list cos Finland had some didn't they? I know the flyable Glad is Swedish.. maybe the other Scandinavian nations had em too?

Hmmm.... ok I have a minor problem here....

When Finland were at war, they fought AGAINST Russia, yes? They were fighting the Russians as Russia had inavded Finland, looking to absorb the country just as it had already done with Latvia, half of Poland etc etc.

Now, the problem I have here is that at the time that Finland was fighting Russia, Russia was allied to Germany, meaning it was an Axis power. SO what are the Finnish doing with German planes and markings when they weren't an Axis power and wouldn't have been fighting Russia if they were?

ummm.. Russia and Gemany signed a non-agression pact... which is different to being allies iirc... basically it ensured that Russia wouldn't start on Germany, even if it wanted to, and vice-versa.. unfortunately for old Uncle Iosef, Hitler was a kniving little scum-bag and didn't hold up his end of the deal.

why the HELL is the flyable Glad Swedish?...coulda been Iraqi, or South African etc.etc

Is that simply cos Il2 FB HAS TO BE ORIENTATED AWAY FROM UK PLANES>>>?

cos lets face it, Gloucester is in ENGLAND...and the Gloucester factory purchased all the spare bits and parts from a French company in the 20's (Niuport Nighthawk?) and that plane was developed and redeveloped over the years to eventualy pop up as the Glad.

The JAPANESE even brought some of the older planes from Gloucester. As did Latvia and Sweden and Portugal, Finland, Greece, Iraq , Egypt, South Africa, Norway.

And a UK Squad used in it 1939 in France.

    HERE>...go read

    http://www.battleofbritain.net/0008.html

Its a good un...and its Fleet Air Arm pilots in the example....ref the Invasion of Scandinavia.......and its Glads taking out He111's

For the last three weeks of June 1940, Malta was defended by just THREE Sea Gladiators, but flown by the RAF, the groundcrew made up from RAF, Navy and Army personel. The planes were christened Faith, Hope and Charity.

After three weeks of being the sole day-fighters for the island, they were re-inforced by four Hurricanes and carried on flying as frontline defence alongside the Hurricanes for another month before the RN carrier Argus managed to fly off another dozen Hurricanes to Malta.

During that time they were up against the Italian Airforce whose bombers tried flying higher to avoid the Glads but then had to start flying with fighter escorts when the found the Glads could still get up high and take them on.

All in all, an amazing achievement for three supposedly obsolete planes to effectively defend an island against over 200 more modern aircraft.

Ok, done a bit of reading on this now, so I think I've answered my own question....

Finland fought against Russia while Russia was in the aforementioned non-aggression pact with Germany and was previously supplied with aircraft from Britain.

Once Hitler launched Barbarossa, the invasion of Russia, Russian pressure on Finland eased... due to the loss of nearly a million Russian soldiers to the Germans in the first month or so of the campaign.

At this point Finlad realised that Russia was seriuosly weakened and now was the time to take back the territory occupied by Russia. However, they didn't have the military strength for this as they were a small nation with very limited war resources, so Finland allied itself with Germany to gain access to its men and equipment, hence Finlad is OKL in the game.

    phew...
