Howard: Memory and optimisation I'd guess
I'm only a couple of hundred off your score and my cpu's only at 2.08, and I'm running fairly craptastic memory too
3dmark 2001SE score if you're interested![]()

Even though I was interested at one point as to how I could increase my score, personally I think 3DMark is crap and results seem to be random from one machine to another. There surely can't be a way to compare one system to another when there is going to be so many different pieces of hardware to factor into the equasion, let alone differences in software!Originally Posted by Howard
As you can see by Deck's screenies, it looks flipping gorgeous, but my machine with a 9600XT gets very nearly the same 3DMarks!![]()
Yep - I seem to be getting the same scores on 3DMark2001 as i was a year and a half ago ! I hit around 12k, yet in 3DMark03 I do 5350 and thats without clocking my GPU.
Yet with a bit of tweaking I can run perfect mode no problem now.
I would like a faster cpu though![]()
With the amount of systems i've seen tested from one install to another, i tend to agree. The number generated from 3d mark 2k1 is very arbitrary indeed!Originally Posted by Big_Al
Well, so you all know, I ran 3d mk 2001SE and 2003 last night about a dozen times each and the scores varied about 50 marks each way for both.
I spent a little time mucking around with memory timings and now run 11-2-2-2... with bugger all difference to the scores before or after.
Cant be bothered with it anymore, as some else up this thread said, it don't matter what the 3D scores do, its how it PLAYS that's important.... I reckon for actual online gaming, I'll come down one notch on the ground detail settings and run with no AF and 4xAA... iot looks gorgeous and plays smooth... which is what its all about.
btw, I second Skii about the CPU, I want a quicker one too!
(dunno why I want a quicker one... I don't NEED a quicker one... I just want one.... so there....)
Yeah i think its the bottleneck in both our systems tbh - even though I've got a fairly modest cpu (XP2200 Thoroughbred B) I can't overclock it with my motherboardOriginally Posted by Deckard
so I'm pretty much stuch at stock speeds)
With my Fx5950 Ultra and 1Gb DDR2700 my cpu is now my bottleneck![]()
Throw me some more images of dogfights at high quality! gogogogo![]()
What board u got chap, I've got 2 spares at home if u wanna trade something...Originally Posted by Skii
Its fairly new tbh m8, Abit KD7A (via KT-400) Onboard sound, DDR400 support 266/333 cpuOriginally Posted by [GSV]Trig
Won't let me change the multiplier though, only lets me up the FSB which then gets unstable when I go over 2Ghz

Deck if thats the 1700 i sold you then it might o/c a bit higher, memory could be holding you back there tho
