Re: I've had a revelation...
I had this revealtion too, about 3 years ago, and told Nick to tell Saitek to put a touch pad on the base of a joystick
He didn't and they didn't.
But YOU could :)
Re: I've had a revelation...
Thinking on a bit... a GOOD trackball would probably be easier and more accurate to use.... probably easier to incorporate into a stick I'd imagine too....

are you wanting to be some kind of Gandalf of the computer world? :P
Re: I've had a revelation...
what's wrong with a POV hat all of a sudden?
Re: I've had a revelation...
POV is workable, but lacks resolution. With mouse look, you can peer round cockpit canopy struts, or eyeball dials properly that you can't when you pan to a set viewing angle. Also tracking external objects is easier with the mouse.
Re: I've had a revelation...
What stick you using, the X45 has a mouse style proportional POV
Re: I've had a revelation...
I can't afford an X52, or else I'd have one ;) I'm using the bog standard Evo atm
Re: I've had a revelation...
I have a X52, and the mouse stick on the the throttle isn't that good for IL2. I found difficult to get to grips with, so just abandoned it. A trackball might have been better; maybe get an old mouse and turn it upside down? :)
I did try Cam2Pan ages ago, which was basically a free version of TrackIR. It used a webcam to track the movement of a light (I taped a torch to a baseball cap!). Was pretty good, but everytime I moved my head (which was a lot as it turned out), I would look around, even with just shifting in my chair. Took a fair bit of concentration just to sit still.
