It's a well known problem with the game, if you check the tech support at Bohemia interactive it's awash with the same complaints. Mabee you just got lucky?
Presumably the problem you're having is linked to having 4GB RAM and a black screen on startup? I had that too but it was eventually patched (despite the devs endlessly blaming nvidia and saying they wouldn't fix it ). Either way, I tried it more recently and it worked fine. It was only fixed in a beta patch back when I tried it, which I had to hunt down on the Bohemia Interactive forums, but I imagine it's now in the most recent final patch.

If you really get into ArmA, or love driving games/flight sims, then TrackIR is a must. It is overpriced but it just makes the game more immersive.

Hmm might get this to test my new rig. Amy idea of a good place to pre-order where I will likely to get it on release day?

Re: If I were to wade into ARMA...

Will order it tonight. I installed the original ARMA on my winX64, 4gig system last night and it runs without any problems. I jumped in a helecopter and crashed using keyboard and mouse, so tried one of these instead

works suprisingly well if you dont have room for a full sized joystick

Re: If I were to wade into ARMA...

Zak - for the love of God if you're going to get into ArmA give me a call and I'll walk you though it! The learning curve is pretty steep for a FPS and frankly if you don't know what to expect you'll be put off it.

Too much to type here but in a nutshell, avoid the demo. It's useless. Secondly think of ArmA as being the building blocks for something else. Whilst it's a 'game' is more of an engine to allow modders to go nuts building something which plays and works a lot better!

Current, ArmA itself isn't really played that much in its original form - instead most people play ACE which is an online realism mod that sorts out most of the gameplay problems with the original game and also makes it a lot more fun. ACE is going to be brought over to ArmA 2 - so far they're saying a fortnight after ArmA 2 is released.

So... take Jiff up on his offer and if you like we'll get you up and running, at least to the point where when you get ArmA2 you'll understand what the fuss is about!

  16. Received thanks from:
