Yellow/Red chain is server lag. It typically happens when someone new is joining the server and they don't have the mission in their client mission cache. Domination for example is about 1500kb, so when the server is sending the mission everyone else can suffer for a few seconds or so.

Hacking is also happening. There's an exploit floating about which is downing a lot of the public servers, we'll have to wait for a patch to sort that. This doesn't cause that much stuttering though, more kind of blows everything up and turns buildings upside down etc...

iGi are running a public server. I'm in talks to try and get a 'Hexus n00bs' night put on where we can share a Mumble server and have some fun working together.

I believe it's down to my monitor's native res of 1920x1200.
Despite changing res/settings in all sorts of ways, my fps hasn't changed more than by about 10...
I thought I could cope at first (30fps in open areas), but as soon as I went into a built up area it halved.

I was considering upgrading to something like a GTX 260, but I'm unsure if it would be worthwhile and if the CPU would be the bottleneck.

I'm not really concerned about running it on high, just want it to be smooth.
Nothing currently available will run ArmA 2 at high res with decent details smoothly. The first game was the same - only now are we seeing hardware capable of running it properly, so it's going to be years before ArmA 2 is able to be run flat out. I've got a GTX260 and I'm running most stuff on high at 1680x1050. View distance is set to about 2.5km - this is the real system killer. SP is more limited by CPU because the AI needs lots of CPU time. More cores the better for SP.

The commander is suppose to give orders to us yet most of the time im awaiting orders all the time and just stuck on the air field base doing nothing.

I also feel that we need some tanks and armoured vehicles around the hot spots as going there by foot is a no no. Just like in a real war(as far as i can see) you dont just walk towards a hot spot and start blasting your way through, you normally have air support that levels the are if there are no civilians and also have armed vehicles at present creating open paths for people on foot to go in and attack.

Overall this game needs teamwork and communication for it to be fun online. i have not tried SP mode as im hearing awful things about the friendly ai being rubbish so i will stick with MP mode as i dont have to deal with retarded squad members in SP mode.
I've chopped a few bits out of you post but to address your issues:

This will be the case for the short term. Remember the game is new, so there's lots of fresh blood many of whom will have come straight from CoD or BF2. They don't know how things work, how to control stuff, how to teleport and so get bored quickly. The hardened vets will be doing their level best to bring some order to the chaos - I was trying last night but got sick of idiots running off with all the choppers and taking both (!) spawn points to the same town. It'll calm down in time.

Tanks and other vehicles are earned by doing the side missions. Most people ignore them though so you won't see many vehicles about. I pretty much try to ignore the main mission and go ploughing through the SMs. Alas last night everything I 'earned' someone else had the cheek to bugger off with lol. That's public server for you mind.

Commanders don't exist as such in Domination. Yes there is a squad lead but on a public server it's rare to see someone actually leading. Try to buddy up with someone and then get your pair to work with other pairs and so on.

Yeah Boo is one of our lot. The other reason I don't use it is because we just natter via Mumble and there's always some of us on the server playing heh

Re: Armed Assault - a guide

hi, just played in the igi server. seems ok but got a question. i approached a circle spotted zone area in the map on my own and there was nothing to do so i went to a circle filled red area on the map and saw some action and died straight away lol.

i assume the filled coloured red areas is where we need to attack?

It's possible that the town was in the process of being recaptured and the enemy hadn't mounted a full attack yet. You would have needed to search out and find the enemy in the town to stop that from happening.

The full red town yeah.... Approach the red towns with care because they'll be hotter than the surface of the sun.
