    The P-38L

    I love this plane

Dunno why, maybe the looks, maybe its the sound the guns make when you open up, but if there is more fun than trashing Zero's and popping that airbrake out to turn like a devil, I've yet to discover it.

Its like a 190 that can actually turn Got to be careful with that P-38J though, don't even try power-diving without those air-brakes

ha.... airbrakes.... didn't even cross me mind. Probably where I went wrong diving on the Tirpitz Friday night....got an engine ripped off me wing.. not sure if it was the over-zealous AAA or me driving into the superstructure cos I was going too fast to pull up in time..

They are the secret to this plane Tumble - you need to fly it with one finger on the airbrakes

Try a steep turn and pop the brakes - you'll be on his 6 before he knows it, and they are essential for pulling out of any power dive.

I tried this out for the first time today. It put a big smile on my face. Great fun and surprisingly light on its feet.

ahhh, no wonder it was flying like a bucket of crap when I tried it!
It was still surprisingly slow in level flight and climbs though, or is there something else I've been missing?

HEH - i loved this plane yesterday at Zak's - its beautiful, 6 rockets and 2*1000lb for turpitz busting is just what the doctor ordered

Its damn quick too, takes off like a dream and i can actually fly it like a fighter, shooting one enemy aircraft down on the way home after dropping ordinance on the turpitz.

Though, I am definitely a bomber person, I can fly fighters at lower levels, under 3k but I was completely out classed by Zak and others higher up, however come down to my level and its much nicer

However all of this still can't beat a HE111 with 2 torps on

Amen to that Tig, however don't underestimate the Lightning as a fighter, If you keep your speed up and pop those brakes at the right times, its lethal.

This thing is quick, bloody quick. 400mph in level flight is quite normal - Stick with the slashing attacks and the power-climb, 4 .50s and a 20mm all concentrated in the nose will rip anything apart that dares to dross its path.

I absolutely love this plane (can you tell from the screenies ? ) Fast as hell and unusually the J-model (earlier one) is actually faster than the later dive-break equipped L-model.

Messer pilots didn't call it the 'fork-tailed devil' for nothing
