Hey guys,
Noticed a few posts around here to do with CoD4, and since I had registered on the forum to provide a wireless driver for Windows 7, thought I would post a quick bit about the competitive scene in CoD4 since no one has mentioned it
Basically we have a pretty huge scene, a lot of the higher level stuff consisting of lan parties, broken up by either ladder play or practise games, and lower down more casual league and ladder play.
Sponsors put quite a lot into these LAN parties, and players are against each other for considerable prizepots
We play a modified version of the game, in 5v5 Search and Destroy. The game is played using my mod 'Promod' (named as such in reference to mods for other similar games) - which makes the game more spectator friendly for events (the game is far clearer, shoutcasters have an interface giving a summary of all the players health etc, round times are short, things which would help camping or cause deaths not from direct action are removed) - better graphics visibility, far superior frames per second, better hit registration, etc - many gameplay improvements to help the competitive game (you can drop the bomb for instance in case it was accidently picked up by the sniper) - and many other gameplay enhancements, bug fixes, things to reduce config cheats, etc.Originally Posted by European CoD4 Major LAN Prize Pots 08-09
One of the more noticeable changes is the fact that levelling and perks no longer exist, as it was not practical to turn up to a LAN event and have to level up.
The end result is a very fast teamplay game that is accessible, both exciting to both spectate and play, easy to understand, but with a good skill gap rewarding teamplay, aim and gamesense.
Some example leagues are the very friendly lot at www.enemydown.co.uk (UK) or the huge following at www.clanbase.com (Europe). I would recommend EnemyDown to anyone starting out in the game.
Here is a typical 'frag movie' of a team playing this:

And also a showcase of a LAN event that was just on Dutch TV

Hope this interests all of you, and hopefully get a few people interested ^^
