Re: Which ONE aircraft would you take a flight in given one wish?
If it were a case of blame we could go way back upto the people that decided we should goto war in the first place, or the people that were going whatever it was they were doing that made those people go to war, or the god that made whoever was doing what they were doing in there imaginary gods name and so on and so forth, not our place to put the blame with anyone, just one of those things...
Re: Which ONE aircraft would you take a flight in given one wish?
colin, you are welcome to HEXUS Wargames forum.
Welcome.. and our condolences to you. After all these years I am sure the pain has eased a tad but is still deep rooted and sorrowful.
I am, however going to bring the thread back on track as it was meant to be a light hearted and exciting thought provoking thread.
If the fairy godmother showed, and you had the Aviation Encyclopedia to hand... which page would you turn too.. what would your trembling hand point too,.... and once whisked away by the magic, where would you be flying?

To be taken for a ride then U2. This scene still drops my jaw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHOX3deFhbw
Flying myself, probably an F22 for the raw power and agility. Thrust vectoring sounds like hours of entertainment to me, not to mention hitting Mach 2 then kicking in the afterburners :D Hell of a party trick.
Kinda sad that both of those are American not British, not that I'd turn down a Typhoon.

My first experience of flying was in a family friends 2 seater at the age of 12 before I had my first flight in a 747 (to the UK). I've always been a bit of a adrenaline freak and he knew this and did some interesting things to keep a small boy happy. He was a test pilot and a good friend of this guy.

Who knocked me over accidentally once at an airshow making me drop my ice-cream, he bought me a new one and then offered to take me up in his other plane (I forget what it was) and not the Pitt Special aerobatics plane! Unfortunately my mum said no...
Chris Sperou was, I believe, the holder for the lowest inverted ribbon cut for a good few years

Bearing in mind Chris must be in his late 60's early 70's by now!
Edit: He is 74 now!

Zak, thanks for the welcome, I am sorry for pulling the thread off track a bit. In the interests of getting back to light hearted...... I have one aircraft I'd absolutely love to fly in...
I'm in CH-53 Pave Low, skimming low in from the sea as the sun is setting behind me. Doing some nap of the earth flying inland up a wooded valley with a river snaking below, having to switch to NV googles the further inland we go....

Is someone flying a CSAR mission?
Re: Which ONE aircraft would you take a flight in given one wish?
Probably an F22 over the gulf of mexico in summer, would be amazing

Interesting to see this one revived.
I've noticed that no one has chosen any helicopters.
Now depending on how far into fantasy we're allowed to go it would have to be:
1 - The Kamov Ka-50 aka the Hokum (NATO code name back in the cold war) in a simulated dogfight vs apachie's in a mountainous area of the Balkans.
2 - The Bell-McDonnell Douglas Sting bat LHX (this was one that never made it past the paper design concept) by it did make it to an airfix model kit http://www.puertoriconet.com/images/lhx/ I had one of these when I was a kid.
3 - An AD Police Fire-Bee through Mega Tokyo, yes this is the far end of fantasy as it's all from the original bubblegum crisis anime
This is the fire-bee

Flying something like that, low level, through a bladerunn-esk city would be such scary fun.
Re: Which ONE aircraft would you take a flight in given one wish?
Ooh never even thought about helicopters. Would have to be a Chinook. Simple reason one of my mates from school, got a metro after his test, a metro we would pick up(I'm still amazed those things don't blow away in the wind) and move when he was drunk/not looking/chasing us down the street. He drives a disco nowadays, which he proudly revealed to us with a cry of "Pick this up you bunch of....". ;)

Saw a Spitfire over the weekend doing a loop-the-loop and strafing run over the sea, it sounded phenomenal so probably one of those!
