Absolutely loving this after a shaky start, ground combat is pretty poor but star trek has always been about the ships anyway.

My handle is David Fatali@Cougho, feel free to add me anyone. Oh and my ship is a standard Centaur Class, the USS Warspite.

    Re: Star Trek Online

agreed! im reading loads of catchy, non-serious names and their all in fun - its just annoying me that the 'Core' Star Trek fan base are going balistic over it! im sure they will incorperate RP servers like they did in WoW - it would be stupid not to in Star Trek especially.

just something else that made me giggle:

Havnt played it yet but wanted to know if there is a place that the federation can dock and hang out.... kinda like a giant space station?

    reply

    Re: Star Trek Online

I have not ventured on to the official forums yet, it sounds like a bit of an idiotfest. Trekkies are always going to get their knickers in a twist about people not taking it seriously.

yeah, i knew that going in - they just need to hold out until release, im adament that they will release an RP server and i havent even checked.

the friend of mine that has his copy patching right now just emailed me (i dont get paid until the 26th so a bit of a way away before i can get in)
but he said if i set up a steam account tonight he'll buy it me so he doesn't have to solo it - win, aint gonna say no to a Freemans!

    Re: Star Trek Online

There are no servers though, its everyone together with instancing. And if they do I could not imagine a worse place on earth that a ST RP server. I really enjoy ST but imagine the nutters who really get into it only allowing Klingon characters to communicate in Klingon!

    Re: Star Trek Online

Geeked out to GiantBomb's hour-long venture into the beta last night. Grabbed myself a beta key and downloaded the 7840MB client (ouch!).

Seeing as the game's available for pre-order, and scheduled for release next month, I'm curious to know how people can buy it without knowing the pricing structure?

My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

    Re: Star Trek Online

With regards to the ship names i've also seen some really good ones. I'm a star trek fan but i certainly dont mind someone calling their ship whatever they want. On my travels i've already seen the USS Bismarck.

Had a few good battles yesterday with auto-joined teams, which surprised me as i thought most people would be idiots however everyone seemed to focus fire and work together as a fleet.

    Re: Star Trek Online

The ones I had yesterday were not too bad either. Go in with more people and things can get a bit tricky, especially if there are a few large enemy ships spawned! What weapons are people using by the way?

    Re: Star Trek Online

Been waiting for launch to see how the reviews pan out, and how the game is rated by the community, i decided not to purchase it, but due to the setbacks of other games i've decided to give this game a spin, but it would really depend on launch date and how close SWTOR release date is, as that now seems to be confirmed for a Spring release.

    Re: Star Trek Online

newb PC question - does the game require a top of the range spec? im no good with PC technicalities and was just hoping it would work on mine on the lowest setting, ive not really got basis for comparison as the only games i really play on it are MMO's like WoW is the only game installed right now

    Re: Star Trek Online

Not sure what your specs are but I have most of the settings on mine up at high and it runs just fine!

Mine is an E6750 with an old 8800GTS 640mb and 4gig of ram under W7.
