    Lots of people mate.

I have friends who stumped up when LOTRO came out for the life time membership option.

I have got a beta key for this from cvg so will give it a go.

    Re: Star Trek Online

Not bad so far, ship combat is great, ground stuff ok but not very impressive, lag is funny, you beam up from a planet and spend 2 min standing in space or beam down and end up as your ship on the ground.

Did some random mission last night, had to defend some base from Klingon's on my own, all ok till last wave which was the Big Klingon Neq'vah(spelling) battle ship, I thought I was dead in my starter ship but I still won

My ship is the USS Hellsing

    Re: Star Trek Online

Finished downloading it this morning. First impressions aren't bad. It's a bit like Pirates of the Burning Seas in most aspects. The ship combat is a lot like Starfleet Command (I think that's the name, the one based on a board game). The ground combat is a bit lack-lustre, but I think it's difficult to implement it better without making it more complicated or taking away from the ship combat, which is where they should rightly concentrate on. I'm not entirely sure if my skills are actually improving anything or not! It's a bit difficult to tell. Ship customisation is good whilst still retaining some sort of Star Trek feel to them. I've died several times, all of them in sector combat with groups of Klingons! Didn't have any problem with lag until the last half-hour or so; presumably from the Americans joining. As such I too have experienced beaming down and being in my ship as well!

I'm currently level 5 or 6; Gerrard@GerrardUK I think is my complete name/handle (not sure). Ship is the USS Thunderchild (originally named after War or the Worlds, but apprrently is also a name name used in the Star Trek universe as well I was told!).

Have to say, looking at the pre-order stuff it isn't that amazing. A couple of unique emotes and some other random crap. Very unlikely I'll purchase this at release as I doubt the launch will be smooth. Might try it a few months down the line when it's a bit more stable I think.

    Re: Star Trek Online

Well, I crashed out after leaving the planet to go back to the sector. However, for a minute before the crash, I was running around space as my bloke! It's taken over 5 minutes to get back in (it checks all the files and the login process is slow as hell now). I'm literally taking 2 steps forward and one back due to lag, so no more tonight.

    I couldn't resist any longer....

Sadly I wasn't lucky enough to get a free beta key, so I've had to pay for the privilage, it'll be worth it to see how it's panning out.

Serious reservations about forking out for a lifetime sub, despite it's saving on paying monthly, it's a fair chunk to part with in one lump....

It won't be a game i'll be spending any cash on, ground combat is very simple and space combat doesn't feel as fluid as Eve, overall i don't like it

Guess you missed my reply here: http://forums.hexus.net/gaming-news/...cks-off-2.html

Don't think I'll be getting STO now. About 10 hours in I'm getting frustrated by so many bugs. 3 of the 4 missions I tried last night were bugged. Could only motivate myself to write one bug report since it appears they have already been reported sometime ago. This is disappointing as it shows the Dev team aren't going to have enough time to fix all these bugs before release.

Hope they release a trial 6-12 month after release. I do feel the game has a lot of potential if given the time to be properly completed and polished.

Doubt I'll ever get bored of firing phasers and the hearing that satisfying classic Star Trek sound

    Re: Star Trek Online

The torpedo sound and watching it home in on a target when their shields are down... that's satisfying!

The game has a lot of potential, that's for sure. It's probably the best genre for a Star Trek game really. However, is does seem a bit dubbed down; somewhere between Earth and Beyond (if anyone played that) and Bridge Commander.
