    Re: World of Tanks

To be fair though that was a first battle of the day which doubles your points if you win.

Nonetheless, that is indeed how you make your points in a 'waaahhh I got mismatched with all the heavies that I can't damage' battle. You're there to scout, fling on the camo nets and go hide. The higher the tier tank you spot, the more points you bag for doing sod all.

Yes you can get one-shotted by just about everything but that's the fun; be sneaky, move fast and keep your eyes open for danger.

This happened for me the other day, put against T6-7 in my A-20 (T4 light), so I just hit R a few times and let the game begin. Now, considering it was on Prokhorovka and I was at a slight angle, I almost made it to the level of their base on the other side of the map, spotted about 10 of them, rammed a TD (without steering or aiming), did 2% damage to it and destroyed myself (I had been hit already so wasn't at 100% health). The TD I rammed lolled in chat and we had a laugh about me not even aiming and hitting him. We won the game and I made about 12-1400 exp from the spotting.

    Re: World of Tanks

I'd just like to draw your attention to the number of tanks detected.
To get tanks detected you have to be the first person to detect an enemy tank, if someone saw it before you then it disappeared and you re-detected it you don't get the detected xp.

Spotting xp is xp you gain if you have visual sight on a tank when someone else damages it and it's outside the normal visual range on that person, i.e. your getting xp for acting as their eyes, you can gain xp for lightling up targets for the artilery
Spotting is not listed on those lists.

yes I nearly detected the entire enemy team.

    Update news:- http://game.worldoftanks.com/news/fu...d-and-improved

Got my KV-2 turret just incase!

I can testify Georgy is damn hard to kill. I think it was him or the other KV that was defying my Pz. IV's insignificant L/70!

EDIT: Best database I have found is this one.

    Re: World of Tanks

Odd you must of been hitting him from an angle as the 75mm KwK 48 L/70 punches through KV's 95% of the time. heck the L/48 can do it most of the time. (just don't go for the front of the turret)
doesn't do much damage, around 15-20% per hit but the fire rate & accuracy is good so you can slowly wittle them down.

Things to remember when fighting KV's in a Pz4
    - Range & Vision
The 75mm KwK 48 L/70 is great at long range and snipeing and the KV has a short visual range, so try to keep distance between you.
If the KV is using the 152mm n00b cannon then it can one shot you even from the front, don't go close to a KV with a n00b cannon, the accuracy at range and aiming time is bad, so stay at range and pound away
    - Overwhelming fire
Staying at range is a generally good tactic vs the KV , however you need to beware of the 107mm ZiS5 it's not quite as accurate as the L/70 but it's still good at range and hits harder.
One big advantage of the Pz4 over the KV is higher RoF and less aiming times, you can keep putting in shots, as long as they hit you will disrupt aiming which will greatly reduce his accuracy.
So in a sniper dual a Pz4 can win.
    - Hide behind someone else
Ok sounds a bit cowardly, but while the Pz4 is a great sniper tank and has good front armour, your sides and rear are weak and you don't have the HP of a T1 or KV or other heavies.
So let a heavy lead the charge and give them close support, many players seem to go for ether the biggest tank or the most damaged, so while the enemy focuses on the heavy, you hang back slightly and focus on the biggest threat to the heavy in front. (enemy KV's are often on that list becuase they pack big guns)
This is also important if the enemy KV has a n00b cannon because they take forever and a day to reload, so use a team mate as ablative armour then pound that KV while he's reloading (I can tell you now that a Pz4 with an L/70 can kill a KV (100% to 0%) in just over half the time it takes the n00b cannon to reload
(from experience, a Pz4 killed my KV while I was about 60-70% of the way through reloading)

My other advice for a Pz4 driver is try not to do the sideways peek from behind a rock, the acceleration is not that good and you've got very weak side armour.

And NEVER NEVER go close to a KV with a n00b cannon, how to spot the n00b cannon? simple, Large turret and a short barreled gun = run.

Oh and on the whole "free tanks" due to tech tree changes, it's going to be a slow process, with the USSR heavies changing around July/Aug time, so no great need to rush.

    Re: World of Tanks

After getting chewed up by so many KV's in both my Pz3 and Pz4, I got fairly adapt at killing them.
And as that was in the first couple of weeks there was not a lot of higher tier tanks so I'd encounter a lot of them.

Now I'm playing the KV I've discovered the pain of that tank.
The 152mm n00b cannon is great in town maps where you can turn a corner and one shot the thing in front of you (you can even one shot enemy heavies if you hit them in the right place)
This goes double for games where you're the top of the list however now I'm mainly going up against IS's, tigers, VK's, KV3's and T29's most of which can one or two shot the KV, you can still do them serious damage with the n00b cannon but the reload time that I often only get one shot off before I'm dead. esp as I cannot hit much at range.
I've finally unlocked the great 107mm ZiS6 it's starting to get a bit more fun, I'm still a slow moving target for higher tier tanks but now I can hit stuff at range and get more than one shot off.

    Re: World of Tanks

Undecided between the 122mm and the lolcannon. Higher rate of fire and the small turret; you can still two shot mediums with the former. Don't like having to hide for 30 seconds while the lolcannon reloads; that turret too.....

Don't have the XP for the 107 yet.

    Re: World of Tanks

i love the lolcannon, it sucks on every level in terms of reload time and turning and firing cost (1k per shot). but at the same time its so fun to play with. People mentioned missmatched games are a grind, but with this thing it doesnt feel like a grind, it feels like a duty. When i go in to a battle i only take 10 rounds, take any more an its pointless as too slow reload, and 10 rounds, pretty much means 10 kills

    Re: World of Tanks

Well for every good game I'd get about 5 or 6 bad games in my KV with the 152mm
That's mainly down to position and map, I'd also add that crew skill becomes a big part of it esp at range.

While the green circle shows the maximum deviation of your shell, the average deviation seems to be a lot more crew dependent, with a 90% or more gunner & commander you get a lot more shots going into the middle quarter of the circle than near the edge of the circle.

Well I started the weekend with nearly a million credits allready to buy my KV3, however due to the equipment modules being half price, I've now got almost nothing and my tanks seem to have aquired loading rammers, gun stableisers and such
ho hum back to ginding for me.
