    Radio Controlled Aircraft.....

me and Rias were hacking along the A41 near Aylesbury when we got buzzed by a bi-plane.....that was 3 feet wide

Quick exit at the next slip road, follow the buzzing little beast...to a field

Freshly mown centre, long grass, warm summer day, lots of dead friendly and very quite people going about their hobby....or flying

Oooooohhh.......i'll host the little pics and movies we took tonight and get em posted...but suffice it to say....it was just so damn relaxing and yet to cool.

Hemel Hempstead club....near by.....some home made machines some ready bought, all glow fuel not battery and it was just......

    hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    nice

Heh, now if it was me, and all of you around my age will remember a TV show where the kids who where fighting to stop evil people had radio controlled spitfires and got the baddies in the end with the bolt loaded darts attached to the bottom of the spitfires...

    PURE genius...

    I remember that

The baddies were trying to smuggle something over the channel on their model plane and the kids stopped them by shooting it down with a dart or something

    ahh vague memories

those little things are good for gunnery...might come in handy

I have to say tho...these people were sat in a warm field, with a perfect square of mown grass in the centre and the edges were long grass, and as it turned out, its to catch the planes as they land.....

blue sky but really big fluffy white clouds...so the film I did get on the digi camera is pretty good...shows the speed (and slowness of the Bi plane)

These things take off in about 10 feet....no kidding...

One had transparent red wing skins and white structure so the sun shone through the wings when it soared over head

Was quite quite taken.... but the beauty of that bi plane....was dull khaki and grey and looked.....hmmm and it turned like a ...like a ....153

Been looking at those fighter birds for a while now... thing is, what good are they unless you have someone to fight against?

Only thing that stopped me getting one, tbh.

Buuut having seen those fully aerobatic jobbies in another thread here... I'm kinda tempted by one of them.

Not sure about the whole glo-plug scene... the engines are SOOOOO damn expensive... I dunno, maybe I just need to get myself a decent kit this time.... last one I had was rotten...

LOL Deckard i'm sure you could have justified it if you had a boy, but you've got two girls, better spend your time and money on dresses etc hehe

Either that or try buying a big enough one to put your smallest in as a pilot

yup, the kits can be pretty cheap and it doesn't matter if you've got a decent engine, but if you do it the other way around..

See I wanna buy a kit - proper kit,

I want to lovingly piece it together with balsa, the wing carefully constructed and fashioned exactly to the specifications, braces and spars, the fuselage constructed bulkhead by bulkhead, sanded and meticulously crafted to form a beautiful framework of precision craftsmanship, not a splinter, nay a sharp edge out of place.
The scale engine fixed securely in place, wires and control linkages secured to the fuselage braces with the same meticulous care that layed those fuselage strutbraces, control linkages fixed perfectly in position to the servos positioned under the cockpit area for ease of access and maintenance, screws and threads tightened exactly
To provide equal travel either side of the control surfaces.
Then I’m doing to apply the skin, layers of tissue applied carefully and equally to each surface, sooo carefully applied to the main wing, pinned exactly into position as the dope dries and hardens the skin to form a perfect fuselage covering, now she’s looking like a real fighter plane, she’s going to fly like an eagle,
Then finally the paint, those flowing lines now complemented with the colours of those glorious knights that took to the skies of southern England all those years ago, airbrushed to form a perfect even sheen, not a brushmark or a line out of place, subtle oil streaks and exhaust stains of a seasoned steed that was wheeled out of its hangar on a misty July morning 64 years ago, armourers, mechanics and groundsmen pushing that streamlined racehorse into the first shafts of orange sunlight, and then she is complete, proud, ungainly on the ground yet beautiful and graceful in the heavens, immelmans, hammerheads, rolls, dives and flypasts that would bring a lump to the throat of those who never saw those elliptical wings sillouhetted against the skies over Kent as another hun spiraled into the freshly ploughed furrows, silk parachute blossoming in its wake as that defeated pilot becomes another victim of that very British thoroughbred..

Then I’m gonna smash the ba5tard right into a telegraph pole.
