Re: DC Universe - Anyone giving it a bash ?

Am hearing a lot of mixed things about this. Anyone impartial able to write up a short review?

Really don't understand why they don't have a demo/trial. If they think it's a good game, surely giving people the chance to try it before buying it would do them well, financially speaking.

Also, can anyone name a game that had a "lifetime subscription" that is not now free-to-play or dying? I am really worried about their choice in this. Why? Lifetime subs offer them zero revenue after a few months, this means less money being put back into the game for development at later stages. APB had one and it shutdown. LotRO had one, and it went FTP. They really don't inspire confidence to buyers.

Re: DC Universe - Anyone giving it a bash ?

Lotro might be free to play but that doesnt mean its still propular. Plus the free to play is backed up by pay packages for extra content.

I`ve just read something thats a bit of a worry to me and that is there are only 30 levels in the current section. Now I`ve only played for a few hours and hit level 7. Hoping there is either some really decent end game content or lots more stuff getting added as time goes by.

Does anyone know if Blüdhaven is an area in game?

I know, I was talking about the fact that it also had a lifetime sub and is now FTP. It seems to me, and many others, that lifetime subs are used to milk the game for what they can, then after a few months they don't have to bother updating/fixing/adding content to the game if they don't want to.

Re: DC Universe - Anyone giving it a bash ?

Still playing this, 2 levels off level 30, been taking my time with it, the odd hour here and there. The game is definitely set-up for the end game. Once you get to level 25+ everything starts winding up to the end game, the instances get bigger, raids/groups are needed and most are not solo-able. Can't comment on the Duo's and alerts yet for the level 30 characters but from what I am seeing released video wise from the league they are big instances.

So far I don't think there hasn't a moment when I have struggled to get a mission. As you are doing the story via your mentor you will find one story arch will lead to another etc and you will always have something to do. Enjoying it, but I would guess in a few months time more content would probably have to be released but from Sony are saying looks like a whole load more content is due in the next major patches.

Will it keep my attention longer than WoW did for 3 years? Honestly! I am not sure, all depends on new content and more stories/missions/level cap increase etc.

Re: DC Universe - Anyone giving it a bash ?

Decided to give it a go, got it Sat evening and literally haven't put it down since.

I'm really enjoying it at the moment, am a level 17 Martial Arts/Acrobat with Gadgets (I guess much like Batman, my fave char anyway) called Nella on the Reality Lost server, so feel free to give me a shout, although I have yet to talk to anyone in game and hear it's not too easy...

Have done all of the available Alerts so far, enjoyed most of them, so many quests though, am never sure where to go or who to speak with so most of the time I spend travelling and trying to figure out how to get from Gotham to Metropolis and back... not easy to figure it out. Not easy to figure out a lot of stuff really, level 17 and I have no idea what suits my class, which of the millions of skills/talents to pick... a bit too much choice I think.

The Legends: PvP is a tad annoying, have no idea what the skills actually do, so always get trounced. Arena's are much better as I already know my char. Apart from that, nice to have a little bit of balance in PvP, although getting perma-stunned seems to be a very big problem, spend most fights just hitting Shift in the hope it will break the stuns.

And here's a pic of my char. Maybe see some of you in game?

Allen the easiest way from Gotham to Metropolis is to head to the watchtower and in the central corridors you will see the warp zones. Metropolis is at one end, gotham the other:

Code:
G (This is the Gotham Portal)
===== (This is where the corridor seems to have a huge wall and you have to go around or over it)

__/ \__

| | (Central Room of WatchTower)
___ ___
\ /

_______

| | (Broker Room)
--------

====== (This is where the corridor seems to have a huge wall and you have to go around or over it)
M (Metropolis Portal)
Hope that map makes sense, it's literally the central hall and connecting corridors when you warp into the WatchTower. If you head in a straight line in the centre of the tower to the north is Gotham, to the south is metropolis, just remember that if you get lost If it's easier then I could do a quick fraps video for you through the week and upload it to youtube so you can see the way between the two city portals. I have been playing from launch and I still get lost at times as you forget there are three levels to the watchtower and its hard enough to find those corridors up and down xD

Of that doesn't work, hit M to bring up the map, click on the location you want to go to and you will get a way point on your map. As for now finding the missions, simply go into your mission list and activate the mission you want to do, this will put a yellow arrow on your mini map showing you the direction to head.

Also, which server are you on? Did you go to the euro PvP or PvE? If you went PvE send me a mail to Thaw on the Reality Lost server and I add you to my friends list If you are looking for a league I can fling and invite to the one I am in also, small but always running duo's etc, most of us are level 30 now Just running around for gear for myself at present.

Heh, I should've clarified, I figured it out in the end by porting to the watchtower not even knowing what it was, then running around the giant maze before trying to hit M. Once on the map screen I saw all the portals and have been using them to move around.

I now see some items you can buy from vendors that transport you to the main stations in both Gotham and Metropolis, are they worth getting?

And yes, I am on Reality Lost, don't have a clue how to add someone to a friend list though... Are you a Hero or a Villain BTW?

I am a hero on the server, character name is Thaw, if you are a villian however you can't message each other xD Only way to do it is to both be in the same section of city and use the /shout tag to talk from memory.

I haven't bought any of the transporters as tbh if you group your missions in one city do a handful of them then go to the other city you will very rarely have to transport all over the place. Once you get used to the warp points you will learn which one goes where and how to get around without them. Never needed the vendor items plus they take up slots in your small inventory as it is.

On the map though there is a warp to HQ and warp to rally point. HQ one is your starting police station for heroes I know that much so guessing its the same for the villians but their hideouts etc. The rally one is self explanatory, click a rally point on the map and it will warp you there (this wont let you warp cross cities)

If you are a hero and want some help with missions etc just give me a shout as it won't cut your xp as it works xp out via your level not the level of characters in the mission. If you are a hero then pm me your character name or put it in here and I will add you

If you want to add people to your friends list, click the social tab (mine is set to / ) and then change the list of people from nearby to friends you will notice a bar appear above the list saying add friend

The social system of the game needs a major overhaul but you get used to its backwards way the more you use it

Re: DC Universe - Anyone giving it a bash ?

I started off with a Hero named Nella, Gadgets/Martial Arts/Acrobatics, she's now level 19 and I had a lot of fun levelling her. However, last night I created new character, a Villain called Diabolica Demonica, Sorcery/Dual Pistols/Flight, and I am having so much more fun with her.

So, whichever side anyone plays on (on Reality Lost ofc), gimme a shout.

So, whichever side anyone plays on (on Reality Lost ofc), gimme a shout.

I'll jump on there as a Villain then mate, might bump into you, would rather play the bad guy

Think I'll be making some kind of 'Tank' character when it's finally downloaded.

Re: DC Universe - Anyone giving it a bash ?

I've settled down as a Villain on Reality Lost now, same one as above Diabolica Demonica, Sorcery/Dual Pistols/Flight and just putting points into Dual Wield now as well, although may respec soon. Am currently level 22 and playing with a WoW guild member every now and then too.

Am starting to think about finding a League to join, but apart from the official forum (which is difficult to navigate as it doesn't have it's own server forum) I don't know where to look to find one.

BlackDwarf, I'll add you tonight, should be home about 9:30ish.
