    Just got IL2

    My only words, wow!
Now I know what you guys have been going on about, Il2 is absolutley amazing, the damage effects, graphics and the sheer amount of planes.
Been playing it all weekend (I got it for an early birthday present) with my new Saitek Cyborg Gold (also an early present) and i've had a hell of a lot of fun.
What are your favourite planes? (including of AEP)
Mines gotta be the P38 with 24 rockets (can't remember the type of the top of my head) or La 5 FN

Well if you have P38 then sounds like you have IL2 Forgotton Battles with the Aces Expansion Pack? If so and you fancy online play then get yourself Hyperlobby and look out for MA_ tagged pilots if not involved in a VEF mission then we/they will usually be glad to lend a helping hand. We do tend to fly no external views, no cockpit or icons etc so its a bit in at the deep end

Edit whoops you have aep..in answer my fav plane is the Spitfire 1942 (not the clipped wing) It does it all, set it at 240 to 260 kph and she will climb to 8500m she dives like a Sparrowhawk turns like a Red Kite on steriods and has a brillant gun set with 4 x 303 brownings and 2 x 20mm cannons. My only complaint is the fairly low ammo load out, to do real damage with brownings you need a minimum of 8 , what I tend to do is use the 303s to line the target up and then spank em down with the 20mms Spitfire

Yak 3... when I fly that baby, things just fall outta the sky for me...

Or I-16s... strangely... or the I-153s as well... oh, and lets not forget Mr Hurricane and Mr Spitfire (not the CW versions though...) and IL2s... or all up in a Co-Op in a Heinkel or or or ...

    I dunno, like em all!

Anything with more than one engine rocks.... the less manouverabl;e, the more I like it. Hence my favourite aircraft is the big shed, the TB-3. especially since they fixed the top speed of it - I can cruise at 170 kph with 4 FAB1000's on board now

oh yeah, and the Gladiator is the all time turn n burn uber plane mmmmmm Gladiator....

I wonder how many gladiators it would take to bring down a TB3?. Its like trying to shoot down a 747 with a pee shooter.

Might have to try that for fun tonight?

56K shouldn't make too much difference if you're joining UK servers mate.. the netcode's quite good in IL2 I was playing on single channel ISDN perfectly happily with pings of up to 500 no problem

if you have AEP, you're already patched to 2.0, so no and you can get Hyperlobby at http://hyperfighter.jinak.cz

Alright, i'm downloading it right now, what time are you guys on (I presume you guys are UK time?)
Also, I gotta hand it to you guys, you got a very friendly little community "down" here, i remember trying to get into a UT2003 community and even by posting stuff like "Just got UT2003, its great" type thing i got nothing but grief, you lot all deserve a beer (or other preference drink)

plenty of quick mission builders offloine.. try to start straight away with the most difficult settings.. itll pay off in the long run.. and cya in the skies..

And remember .....a fighter pilot is a different breed than your average fps player.. so expect nothing less than a warm beer and a cold welcome.. ( or is it the other way around?
