how do you script the missions where there are moving trucks or tanks etc?
Is it a job for a person to have to do themselves, or it automatable?
Just looking at the DGEN.exe file - present in everyones IL2 main directory.
This generates all the dynamic campaign files, all the vehicles etc move in this too, not 100% sure of the parameters that this passes, but when you know this i expect it will be something like...
DGEN config.ini kuban43.map
config.ini probably going to contain number of planes, AI difficulty etc, i believe that the generator will take care of the tanks, stationary aircraft and where the tanks move too from....

You would need an 88IAP_Pirx equivalent - someone to do the hardcore historical research in order to create accurate and fair plane tables.
I might be wrong but it's always struck me that VEF uses several template maps, with ground objects and moving vehicles already placed on them by Starshoy or whoever, over which the missions are generated. But the building of such template maps would be pretty easy.Quote:

Dak's right. In mission builder you can set start, finish and waypoints for pretty much anything moving. I guess that VEF auto generates these when you request a mission
Well if its in there - i'd be able to go through the text file and understand how to do it.
infact here you are....
From the mission file - my russian convoy group. moving round the map

Relative co-ordinates below... Automated mission generation via the DGEN must do this too tbh....

/\ right man for the job......see ;)
all the settings for cooordintaes.speed.timeouts.object type .. are all initially defined variables.
BOE has NGen, (drawn on the experiences of VEF and Dgen).. where the object type/ occurence, map etc are drawn from a number of dynamically filled tables.
One obvious immediate alternative to VEF .. is BOE - the similarites are striking. If not, i should imagine it is far easier to adapt the initial table contents of BOE to bring in the plane/map pool of your choice - rather than starting from scratch.

AEP has NGEN in it as well. In fact its a slightly later version that the BoE one. It may well be possible to harness its power and run it behind a set of web pages. It would not suprise me if that is what VEF already does.
Depends of course if you want to replicate VEF or take it to another lever. There are serious discussions going on else where about alternatives. Check out the VEF development forum threads
