    Re: Arma 3 announced!

The recommended specs are going to be very steep, even with a Core i7 2600k and 570GTX SLI I still get down to 25fps in the campaign. Yet it is fine online and in some of the single player missions. Quite a fan of the Arma series compared to Operation Flashpoint reboots which are horrendous!

    Re: Arma 3 announced!

I'd need to be 100% convinced that it was playable out of the box at a sensible frame rate on a sensible PC OR I'd need to spend a lot of money and even more time working on getting it to run.

Sadly.. I don't seem to have the life style bandwidth required for it to be a realistic game to play.

A great shame.. when it's good, ARMA2 was totally untouchable.. especially for online Clan Squad work. But it ran like a dog and made it nigh on impossible for regular team-up game play.

    Re: Arma 3 announced!

well it's out, anyone playing? i've had a blast or two on wasteland, one server was playable with 35 - 50 fps and the other never got above 30 but with different versions of wasteland so hopefully it's badly put together scripts rather than arma just being bad. what are peoples performance like on MP? i really hope they bring out a fix like they did for arma 2 when it was first launched as that was pretty much in the same state A3 is in now.

Did you ever try A2 after it had been patched up Zak? It's not perfect but it's a huge improvement from when it was first released, very playable imo even at 30+fps

    Re: Arma 3 announced!

Yeah, been having a nosy about. Gotta say there's good and bad as always.

The fact they've still not addressed the analogue throttle in all this time is frankly abysmal. Multiplayer performance is still hugely server dependent - but given the level of detail it's mostly acceptable.

Slightly disappointed with the lack of SP content/campaign on release, I know the rest is promised for later on, but the number of showcases isn't enough really.

Anyway enough of the criticism. The two maps are amazing, both in scale and detail. Loading up the editor and dumping a chopper in a random location and then going for a fly around is huge fun in itself. The sound is nicely improved too - subtle additions like the click of the trigger action before the shot goes off.

Overall it's a huge improvement over A2 visually and it's far less clunky. But, there's still some of the old bugs lingering on which I'm more than a little annoyed over. Won't stop me playing though.

Are there any people who play MP? Used to play cold war crisis coop with a group of guys years ago now, and I really fancy a go at this - its much better with a bunch of people.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

    Re: Arma 3 announced!

Does anybody know if there's any tricks to optimise ARMA3 like there were with ARMA2? Dropping graphics settings doesn't seem to improve performance all that much.
