True, but THIS particular Ju88 was an experimental version fitted with a dive break in trials for dive bombing, hence the double tailplane and the large protruberence behind the plane, which is the dive brake.

In practice the plane proved too unweildy to pull out of a dive and never saw frontline duty. Only one was ever built, as converting the airframe proved to costly. The prototype plane suffered metal fatigue stress fractures and collapsed whilst taxiing shortly after one of its test flights.

    Not so fast.

#21 is definitely a Do-217, not a Ju-88. Even if they experimentally fitted a Ju-88 with a double tail and a tail brake, this isn't a picture of it.

Look at the outline of the entire rear fuselage - it's totally wrong for the Ju-88, but correct for the Do-217.

There are other suggestions that it's the 217 - such as apparent high shoulder-mount wings, but in the small photo, the fuselage outline would have to be the defintive characteristic.

Tend to agree with him tbh Deck, wings are too high to be an 88 IMHO....
