Bad Company 2 PC... What a mess!

I usually play BFBC2 on the XBox 360 but decided to get it for the PC and i must say i'm not very impressed. The graphics are sharper and more detailed, but the bloom effects and brightness are shocking! This has basically ruined it for me as i'm fed up with running around blind on some maps... I tried disabling bloom through the .ini file which didn't help much at all... and i turned off HBAO which didn't really make a difference either

The Xbox 360 version has a better view distance on maps such as 'Atacama Desert' and the snow maps... You can't see very far in the PC version as you're surrounded by blinding blooming light! Is there a fix for this at all? I downloaded the game from Steam and run it with everyhting maxed out.

Any help or advice is appreciated, if not then i just wasted £20 and will go back to playing it on the Xbox 360 (which for me is the better version despite having less detailed graphics, but at least i can see!).

    Cheers!

I was under the impression it was to deter snipers although admittedly, it is awful on some maps.

CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

I think it ruins the game and just makes me realise how the console versions are more enjoyable... If it's to deter snipers then why bother having sniper class in the game at all, makes no sense and i hope they don't repeat this with BF3 as i've already pre-ordered the PC version!

Turning the brightness down makes it look crap and washed out... Might have to wear sunglasses instead.

The visibility issues annoy the feck out of me, but the game is still a million times better on PC than it is on console.

Re: Bad Company 2 PC... What a mess!

Yes - I had the black screen until I turned bloom off.
FOV is indeed in the config file.
I like the dust/snow visibility issues. Snipers don't always have perfect conditions. What I don't like is the looping sound crash. Seems to be network related in that I get it most often when my connection to the server gets flaky.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

FOV starts to look weird if set much higher... The gun stays the same size except people seem to be further in front of you than they really are, and going into buildings with the FOV set high is also a bit strange. I tried turning off bloom in the config file and it didn't seem to make any difference

One of my brothers has been playing it on his old rig which is a Core 2 Duo E6550, 4GB DDR2 667 memory and a 640MB Geforce 8800GTS... Painful!

Bloom is irritating, but on PC its miles better. I played it on PS3 for like 6 months while I saved cash to replace a dead rig. As soon as I got on the PC it was like a whole new game.

Re: Bad Company 2 PC... What a mess!

I did a few tweaks to this game before I was happy with it.

As you say the bloom especially on the Atacama Desert map is blinding, use can turn it off by putting the value in the .ini file to false.

You can also change the fov to suit your screen res.

Here's a link that will show you how to do these and other tweaks.

Stick with it bud as it's a great game on the pc.

My brother-in-law, a huge COD fan, asked me to get it on PS3, and I enjoyed it for about 6 months. Saw it cheap for pc, and thought that it was good enough to have it on both platforms. Have tried it on PS3 a dozen times since, and switch off after 2 rounds at most.

I should have known that pc would have been a better choice from the off. Leaving aside the controls and graphics, being able to pick a server is great. And I never managed to get the join a friend thing to work properly.

Re: Bad Company 2 PC... What a mess!

I've been getting used to the PC version and it's glaringly bright graphics now... Now my next rant is about unfair players!... What is it with people using aimbots and people shooting through solid walls and rocks etc.? Some people have manged to kill me from literally the other side of the map with with a shotgun! I can hide where i cannot be seen, yet someone will know where i am from miles away and kill me with one shot!

I don't think Punkbuster is all that good at keeping out the cheats/hackers.
