So actually you're arguing for reviews to be tailored to your preferences, rather than the target audience for each respective game? I don't think that's going to happen, unless you start up your own review site that specifically goes out of its way to review games (and rate them down) because they're not the style of game that you like. Otherwise you just have to learn more about what genre of game it is before expressing an interest - reviews can help there without worrying about a score.

I did enjoy that indie game Limbo though - and sort of miss the old platformers which are not as much button mashing than anything else.

No, im going from things that used to matter before in reviews that seem overlooked now - playability being the key one .

You could say thats for people who have more time - or argue that its something that should be there regardless of what audience you target, in the same way a great movie is always watchable compared to one thats just a gimmick designed only as one- off i.e. Avatar

I dont think this is coincidence and more than standards in gaming having dropped for the most part because target audience are too young to know any better , and dont understand the concept given they werent around in the early days when game play mattered more.

Call it dumbed down gaming for the majority or whatever you want , its clear even with game like Dragon Origins 2 that genres are all being influenced by this COD ( CALL OF DUTY SYNDROME ) too need to cater too people with Short attention span.

    My evidence ?

just look at media in general , the quality of films & music / culture in general has eroded to the point a nobody can go on show - become a star and outsell the Beatles , there are numerous examples of products today that wouldnt of even been considered C grade in 80s or 90s..
